Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
FE-117 is now displayed at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Museum
https://airandspace.si.edu/collectio...m_A19600318000 The NASM F-8 was rebuilt from an A-7 to an F-8 by Norddeutsche Dornier, Wismar (NDW). The original Werknummer NASM ascribes to it does not seem correct, I do not believe any Werknummer assigned to an A-7 began with 640xxx. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The position of the FE code on this aircraft is not typical. From War Prizes by Phil Butler:
"Focke Wulf Fw 190F-8/R1 W Nr931884 "Converted to Fw 190F-8 standard by Fieseler from Arado-built Fw 190A-7 W Nr640069 in 1944. In its later guise it was a fighter-bomber; it served with I/SG 2 on the Eastern Front. At the time of the aircraft's surrender it was marked as 'Yellow10', having earlier been 'White 7'." There is more text but that is the gist. There are two photos of it that are dated 1980 and 1988. The original W Nr had been painted over in the earlier photo. A strange thing to do. |
