Hello Jim and Snautzer,
Post #1793: Is that not a portion of the upper fuselage frame, from which the Ju 52 MS magnetic ring hung, visible just above the Fw 190’s right wing?
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Hello,

Post #1808 and 1810: I believe that Junkers-Bernberg-built Ju 88 G-1 (WNr. 712186) was coded __+OL, was found abandoned at Einsatzhafen I Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Germany (co-ordinates 50.044444 8.590278).
I published a color photo of this aircraft in AIRFOIL #1.

Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Can someone identify the bombs in post #1814? I am interested in their weight.

TIA,
Ed

Thank you again Snautzer for this unfinished Me 262 with the uniquely dented nose.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/pictur...&pictureid=629

I wonder why the nose wheel was so valuable to the GIs?

Thanks again,

Jim

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hi Jim,

I suspect the nose wheel was removed to help protect the aircraft from theft. It was a valuable aircraft that held great technical interest to people, including Allies who wanted one. At the time, intelligence teams were competing for equipment and although some security was in place, a few examples make me inclined to consider this possibility.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

I think as tires and such were in very short supply it was taken to serve a flying one or never more likely never had one.

Ed

Or maybe one of the locals needed a new wheel for his wheelbarrow.

I think that the bombs in post #1814 are 1000 kilo bombs.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Thanks Rudi. I know that soldiers removed parts from aircraft as souvenirs but in the case of advanced aircraft, the various US, British, French and other intelligence teams were anxious to get their hands on one to bring it back for study. At the time, whoever found something first and who could move it away, were now the new owners.

Ed, I was just kidding about the wheelbarrow thing.

Hello RudiS,
Post 1827 - Nice photo find of a Fieseler-Kassel-built Fw 190 D-9. Note it’s defining small, green-filled, white Balkenkreuz and chord-extender between fin and rudder. Can anyone make out the markings? It looks like 3+ yellow to me.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Looks like a Hs 129 in the photo on the right bottom. I asked the seller for a better scan but unfortunately he did not respond.

An exceptional grouping of seven photos made 29 April 1945 at AGO Oschersleben. Two more W.Nr are legible for those Fw 190 A-8’s: W.Nr. 739 472 and 739 484.
