Well known aircraft. Even if photos are new, they bring nothing new to the history of the He 219.

Look at the bidding....it is all in the final seconds and two bidders went for the high bid.....then you get this result....probably automatic high bidding....

I wouldn't say that at all. There was an HMS Reaper loading number I was completely unaware of. The arrival date shown on the photos tallies with other information I have researched. The camo pattern shows that the NASM machine's new paint job is spurious, and also show the aircraft exactly as they were after they were captured. The NASM machine had at lest three paint jobs: original German, captured US and repainted 'German' for air shows and open days in the 1940s.

but hey, everyone keeps saying these are all well known photos. If thats the case, can someone let me know where I can find them on the net, for free please?

Rich-suggest you have a word with Robert F as I did. Whatever, these prices are ridiculous & now good luck getting free copies-these buyers no doubt will want to recoup their outlay and as a publisher yourself and me an author, such prices would be economic suicide to the likes of us

In my observation, there are details depicted in the He 219 photographs that shine new light on these captured aircraft, so I agree with Richard.

In my view, the Werknummer of the aircraft in the first two photographs reads as 290060 which is in line with available information. The propeller blades carry the number 15. On the fuselage appears to be written USA 9. The underside of the wings appears to be black, as well as the doors of the wheel bays whereas the underside of the fuselage and the vertical tailplane are of lighter color.

Researchers of He 219 including Ron Ferguson have listed the three "US He 219" as

FE 612, Werknummer 210903, USA 8, "15" applied to its propeller blades

FE 613, Werknummer 290060, USA 9

FE 614, Werknummer 290202, USA 10

In his Research Paper, Ron apparently did not have any records of 290060 having black undersurfaces. Although he then claimed that aircraft within the block of Werknummern 290054 - 290078 possibly had consistently applied black camouflage, he cited 290060 as an exception to that rule.

Obviously, the propeller and spinner of the three He 219 may have been interchanged; that might explain why "15" propellers were on 290060 as shown in the photographs in August 1945, and potentially on 210903 at a later stage. There are also other potential explanations, so these photographs open new questions ....

thanks Revi. I have corresponded with the Freeman Field website guys as I am writing about the captured He 219s there. The problem is that their images are nowhere near as good as the ones that were on eBay....hey ho.

There is a side view, color photo of USA 8 in the book War Prizes by Phil Butler. The caption reads: "Heinkel He 219A W Nr 210903 (later to become USA 8 and FE-612) at Grove (Karup) in Denmark in June 1945 before being painted in US markings. Mrs J. Woolams collection"

This photo shows the aircraft is light grey overall with some darker areas.
