Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thank you Steve. What does the marking IV above the WNr. mean?
TIA, Ed |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
The Streuwelle of the onboard FuG.220 AI radar, indicating Band IV or 3.3 metres. The designation was usually painted on the side of the nose of the aircraft.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Just a wild guess Ju 90.... Position of aerial, low wing and spacing of the two visible motors.
|
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I will say Ju 290 but I'm not sure which sub-type.
|
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
ed look for the antenna very distinct feature and notice no turret.
|
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Pretty sure this is Ju 290 D-AITQ "Preussen" at München-Riem...
|
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Re #1856
Think I must agree it's D-AITQ as on further examination you can make out a covered turret position just forward of the antenna also there is a second antenna up front by the two GI's.this was converted from an armed version.. |

On which front(s) did USA use gliders ? And it's a serious question ! ;) |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Must be quite a big airfield drainage being in the ground. Also must be after war nobody is carrying guns and no trucks tanks etc. Notice waco is put in the load/unload mode. Struts being installed in tail.

Yes, after the war but did they move the Wacos from place to place once the first landing was made? I don't think so... Well, I can be wrong, of course. ... So, my question is "on which fronts did the US used the Wacos?" Sicilia, Normandy, Provence, Market Garden and Rhine crossing ... is that all ? Hence I, we, can think the picture isn't taken in Norway or Greece or continental Italia ... this is what I meant. ... Second aspect of the question being that "Senotstaffel" stuff. Reading Michael Holm page (that's the only one I have to chew) only Seenot 7 had Ju52s .. is it correct? Regards, Franck. |
