As an incidental point, since we're discussing 'claims', in his combat report Eddie Musgrave did not claim to have inflicted any damage whatsoever on the 190 with which he had a brief encounter on 28 Jan 43.

Was P6989 "J" as Johny realy ? There is a picture of P6985/HE-J but if P6989 was not w/o it is strange to have two Js in one week of operations.

Slightly O/T

I was once told by a spitfire mechanic...

' the wing commander always flew an aircraft with his initials on it, sometimes it was his a/c, sometimes it was another we quickly repainted over night, once we had two spitfires in the hangar with the same initials & serial. You never told the wing commander his spitfire was U/S ....

info on 3809 came from a well know luftwaffe researcher, I suppose it might be a typo ?
if so anyone know the fate of 3809 ?

Can someone confirm (or otherwise) that P/O Ferdinand of 263 Squadron who shared a Ju88 on 8/4/41 was a coloured West Indian? Also, additional information required on this pilot including names, please.

I seem to recall having seen a group photo of 263 that included a coloured pilot.

No, P/O Ferdinand was born in West Ham and was white. See link

There were at least 2 Indian pilots with 263 Squadron, they were:

P/O Sayana Puram Duraiswamy Thyagarajan 177663
