By this time all Spits were armed with 20mm Hispano's, not .303 rifle caliber. How likely would it be for Eder to survive one or more 20mm rounds.. ditto for say, two .50 caliber rounds? Gunther Rall only had his thumb blown off but the docs had a helluva time stopping the infection.

Many pilots were killed while hanging and there were many witnesses to confirm this and of course you must link the evidence of the corpse and parachute full of holes with the witnesses declaration. I mean, I am not refering to only find a corpse on the ground, you must join the whole evidence.

By the way looking at statistics, the USAAF must lost almost as many aircrafts in accidents by mechanical failures, weather, pilot error or whatever that in combat.
And the other major air forces suffer the same.

No a bit more in fact , as for 1944 total loss in ops. is something like 7.500 planes, nd losses, just in the continental US amounted to 20.000, with more than 5.000 "fatalities", but from the total combat losses only 20 % where from other "causes", than Flak of fighters

I want to believe that within the 20.000 they count too, a broken landing gear in an accident.
If the 20.000 are total write offs, I´m only have to said OMG.
