Hi Nick,

That's an interesting and useful resource -- thanks for posting the link.

FWIW, there are no people in Germany nowadays with "Hitler" as their surname (no surprise!), but there are very many occurrences of "Göring" and "Himmler"...

Best wishes for 2025,

Hi Snautzer -

I'm afraid Doug has retired or has become permanently incapacitated. I've had one (1) e-mail from him in 2 years. Michael Holm has "retired", too, and I am too old now. So I guess we'll have to leave the "Career Summaries" as is. I did much if not most of the research along with a long list of contributors including Doug, Doug did the manuscript preparation from the entries we sent to him and Michael Holm uploaded the manuscript to his website. It was a wonderful joint effort and it is sad to see it fall by the wayside.

With due respect to all involved, it is part of life to plan ahead. Ultimately, of course, the final decision is left with whoever is in charge at this point.

I saw LWAG, which was run by Richard Eger, disappear. I saw a similar fate with another site.

I do hope this information is preserved and more importantly, not forgotten.

Best,
Ed West

Hi Larry,

I understand. But if it is all right with you i will post here the info i find that is not in the colossal work you and your partners made.
In and https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/thread...-pilots.54010/ are the ones that are.

I very much enjoy finding a name on a eBay picture, then go over to the career summaries and see the who and what.

So i hope some one can fill your enormous foot print in this matter and take on the job of adding and editing.

I think i is safely to say that many researchers have either downloaded or bookmarked these and will use it was it was en visioned.

Thank you. Do know it is very much appreciated.

Regards

Larry, it is sad to hear it, but I fully understand.
However, is it possible to pass on someone interested the Database to keep it alive and add bits and pieces? Of course, there shold be a will to do so...but just a thought.
best regards and enjoy "retirement"...

Peter

My last response from Doug to the updates I sent was at the end of May 2022.

Unfortunately, time catches up with all of us.

I'd like to record my thanks to Doug and Larry for undertaking what was (and remains) a massive task for little personal gain beyond adding to the knowledge of all.

Re: Luftwaffe Officer Summaries for 2023

All good ideas above, in particular:

@ Peter: several webmasters have expressed an interest in taking it when Michael Holm no longer wants to be bothered with it and install it on their own website. However, there was zero interest in maintaining it by making changes and additions.

@Snautzer: I think this may be the more workable idea; changes and new names could be added to an addendum page here on TOCH that keeps the already established format and alphabetical order.

Ruy Horta, Nick Beale and any other moderators should have a say. Also, someone would have to have oversight responsibility for it (other than me, as I mentioned above).
