Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Kaiyan,
P2737 id not valid serial number of Hurricane Mariusz |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Indeed
I don't understand why Kaiyan continues to refer to P2737 As far as I know that RAF number did not exist.... Pity we cannot see any of his photos Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Good evening, It a shame that I cannot post pics any more, as I said the number on the tail of GZ-Z READS TO MY EYES as P2737 I know for a fact GZ-Z was based at Biggin in Aug. of 1940 a photo of it landing there exists...
perhaps and this is just a suggestion somebody could look the squadron records, I know that is some thing I will do in the coming days. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Post 2276 # 9 appears to show Spitfire ML171/RY-C of 312 Sqn.
The date on the caption must be wrong as it joined 312 Sqn on 8 Jul 44, and moved on to 313 Sqn on 5 Oct 44. Source: http://www.airhistory.org.uk/spitfire/_prodn%20list.txt |

However the RY code was used by 313 Sq so date is probably correct. Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Doh, I was fixated on 312 Sqn. You are quite correct Stig.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Post 2291 #3 is Spitfire P9317/ZD-A of 222 Sqn, forced down at Le Touquet on 1 Jun 40.
It was later flown by the Luftwaffe. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Gentlemen
2306/4 gives me a problem To me this looks like L9398 lost in France May 1940 However I also have another crashed Blenheim IV coded RT-N (ie also 114 Sq) which was reported as being L9398. I cannot identify the complete s/n myself since the first letter is more or less obliterated while the first digit may (or may not) be a 9. The last three digits may be 398 but knowing how easily the digits 3 can turn into 9s and a digit 9 to an 8 and vice versa I am simply curious if anyone has a clue what RT-N really was? What is certain is that the two photos does not depict the same aircraft. Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
2306 - 2 is Battle K9251 of 218 Sqn, abandoned at Auberive on 15 May 40.
2306 - 4 will be Blenheim L8398 of 30 Sqn, flown to Maleme from Elefsis on 18 Apr 41 and abandoned in Crete. It was coded VT-B, although there does not seem to be much sign of that. L9398 was indeed lost in France with 114 Sqn, being abandoned after being damaged in an air raid on Condé-Vraux on 11 May 40 |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks for that Andy
Good answer!! What did I tell you? Those darn 9s and 8s....;) I really should have noticed the Mk I nose. Guess I was too concentrated on the digits.:o Oh well, so it goes. Cheers Stig |
