Re: eBay: Allied intrest
2449 shows code "C7" . Roundel the outside circle shows a darker colour than the center so must be RAF , not French. The "C7" looks to be the remnant of it's Luftwaffe code. But itould well be either of these "C7+ ?? or "??+C7".
2450 Show's Blenheim"VT⊙N" K1770 , https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/68502 The one behind serial number is a "3"or a "6" cannot make out the rest of the serial number. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks ED
#2449 : of course no RAF but Potez 63-11 with Matricule Militaire which begins by C7xx of French Armée de l'air First one in the batch with C700 is Potez 63-11 n° 201 Bertrand |

Hi Bertrand,
I thought it looked like a damaged He 111, with an RAF Airman standing by it. Alex |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Stig,
Can you decipher the handwriting on the back ? Also at first in this series of aircraft with codes/serials starting with "K" I thought they were RAF, but it seems they are all French so why the "K-series over the wings ??? Alex |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Alex
The back side says Morane - Bordeaux, but to me this is no M.S. what so ever. The serial number on top of the wing looks like W-515 which was the Armée de l'Air's so called Matricule Militaire. Usually identified as buzz numbers in English they were introduced already in the mid 1920s. In this present case, I would say it is an impressed aircraft since other impressed ones also carried MM numbers in this range. Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Stig,
You are right and for a non-French you have very good knowledge of the French Air Force. Congratulations The MM in W were Caudron C275 Luciole, Caudron C600 Aiglon, Mauboussin and Salmson "Cri-Cri" W-515 is Matricule Militaire for I think a SALMSON D6.T2 CRICRI For example I have W479 Salmson D.6 Cri-Cri n°102 W550 Salmson D.6 Cri-Cri n°164 another view of this same a/c proposed by Ed some weeks ago https://www.ebay.de/itm/325403503210...Bk9SR5jiyt2EYQ Bertrand |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks Bertrand
You are way too flattering. I have a great interest in French aviation and always wish to know more. Yes you are correct W-515 has been shown before and shame on me that I didn't remember it. So a Cri-Cri it is. Thanks also for the additional information. Cheers Stig |

Bertrand & Stig,
Many thanks to you both for responding as always with positive and detailed information. Alex |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Liberator tail number "36", was this "Brewery Wagon", 41-24294. I believe
that she was repaired and was later to be used by the Rumanian Air Force along with 3 or 4 other B-24's ? |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thanks Ed
#2462_2 : The Spitfire coded "V" has a name "Melly Alweita (....) ale" and a possible serial which finished by "0" and readable when you put this photo in negative. North Africa I think |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
You're welcome Bertrand.
The Liberator has the words "Justa Willo Boy" toward the nose. Not sure about the spelling of the first word. |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
The Spitfire "V", have sadly not been able to view it as a negative. However I put forward the following.
My thoughts are that this is a doctored version of "V ⊙ UZ", serial number R6770 of 306 Polish Squadron. Pilot became a POW, 22nd August 1942. Two photo's of R6770 ( crash position very similar) can be viewed in the 306 Sqdn site in the Polish Squadron's Remembered website. http://www.polishsquadronsremembered.com/ Alex |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Post 2465 " I'm a mean Willo boy" confirms the B-24 is "Brewery Wagon".
Quotation is just behind the pilot side (left) window and below the top gun turret. https://warbirds.fandom.com/wiki/Fil...in_Romania.jpg |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Thank you for clearing that up Alex.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
#2466 : fishtail type of exhausts are not the same and we have a Spit V and a Spit IX ; the wrecks on nose are not the same ; so two different losses
Bertrand |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
R6770 was a Mk 1 converted twice up to Mk IX .

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Cannot now find the page or post number but the Captured Blenheim's Luftwaffe code was "BG + GQ".
|
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hello Alex,
In my humble opinion, the Captured Blenheim's Luftwaffe code was not "BG + GD", but "BG+GQ". For memory this Bleinheim belonged to RAF Squadron N°254 and was coded QY-K, serial Z6103. Pierre Babin |
