Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
No, that’s the same Ju 88 C-6 of which I published a photo in my Captured Eagle book together with a color profile from Simon Schatz. I wonder where these photos were taken.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Thank you Roger.
Something more serious: Out of interest I bought the picture in post #2581, a BV138 on a lake/ river after the sourrender. Text on the backside: "Germany, Hersfeld, 1945". As I see on google maps, Hersfeld is in Central Germany/Northern Hessen, and there's the river "Fulda". Seen from the air, it seems almost impossible to me to land a BV138 there. Can anyone confirm the spot or the landing? Best regards Harry |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Roger,
The Fw 200 from the same set of photos as your Ju 88 looks like D-AARB "Rheinland" which was supposedly captured at Pocking. So this might be the location of the airfield (even though the photos above are very blurry, so I might be totally wrong here). Cheers, Christian |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Christian,
Thank you. There is now a new photo listed that clearly shows 'Lufthansa' and the Lufthansa emblem on the fuselage. It looks as if this is indeed D-AARB. Cheers, Roger |

"3./(F)33 had operated in Greece and Hungary under Luftflotte 4 before it went back to the Reich just before the end of the war. (...) At the end of March 1945 the Staffel began its retreat from Hungary via Götzendorf and Markersdorf in Austria to Kirchham in southern Germany, where it arrived on April 9, 1945. One day later, the Oberkommando der Luftwaffe (OKL) ordered its disbandment. It may well be that it was at one of these airfields in Austria or Germany where this photo was taken." Kircham was less than 10 kilometers from Pocking. According to ww2.dk there was a grass airfield with a surface of ca. 825 x 730 meters (900 x 800 yards). Pocking also had a grass airfield. Can we ID the airfield where these photos were taken as Pocking without a doubt or may these aircraft have been found at Kirchham instead? Cheers, Roger |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
At least I don't have any definitive proof that Pocking is the correct airfield. I think I read about the final location of D-AARB in Pocking somewhere in one or two old magazines. Since then I have all photos of this plane in my collection labeled accordingly. But of course this is no proof. Maybe some actual documents are out there anywhere?

Rare shot, thank you. It's a Ju 88 with Jumo 213A. If I remember right, this should be Ju 88 V-18. May I ask for the source of your photograph? |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
This image of the Ju-88 is from the family of Capt. Quigley (do not recall first name right now). He was a B-26 Pilot during the war and after the war flew US Air Technical Teams across Germany as they collected German Technology. Family was kind enough to share his photos with me.

Simon
I'm not sure exactly what you're after but the bulk of Quigley's photos were taken at St. Dizier and there are no Do 335s amongst them. Steve |

I was thinking Southern Germany because of the Ju 87 also present. I cleaned up the photo slightly and it looks as if there's a coloured fuselage letter on the Arado. At Riem 1.(F)/100 is a near-certainty and this fits their style of markings. |
