This is late and way out of sequence, but I believe it is worth commenting on. My subject was the mention of "dead pool" in #30. I do not know which of the participants in this thread have actual military flying experience. If you do not, you may not recognize that as an example of "gallows humor". From experience it certainly existed in USA forces and probably most organizations in the world dealing with severe trauma and death. If you would like to know a bit more about it search for "Why Gallows Humor is Essential in the Military" written by a USA ANG career crew chief which I believe is a really good, concise explanation.
