Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Regarding the me 262 Rudi posted on pg. 343, the tonal contrast between the paint on the upper section of the fin and the paint on the rest of the upper surfaces is striking. Is it reasonable to assume that the upper section of the fin was a subcontracted part? The style of swastika is also rare, though not unheard of on Me 262s.

Hello Rudi,
The first and last photos in your Post #3484 are of the unmarked, Messerschmitt-Regensburg-built, Bf 109 G-14/AS (WNr. 785778). It was photographed by members of an unknown US AAA unit at Fl.Horst/Industriehafen Kölleda in 1945 (coordinates 51.189075 11.217209). Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Hello again Rudi,
The Si 204 D-1 in your Post #3484 may be WNr. 3221xx, St.Kz. BU+P_ which was also photographed by members of an unknown US AAA unit at Fl.Horst/Industriehafen Kölleda, Germany in 1945 (coordinates 51.189075 11.217209). Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Taking into consideration that the tail is in shadow in bright sunlight, the tonal discrepancy may be deceiving. The Me 262 below is the only one I could find that closely matches the camo pattern. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=687 http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=688 http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=689 Does anyone recognize the buildings in the background of Rudy's picture? The He 111 is a TGr. 30 machine and the stencilled "S3" unit code is an interesting detail that I hadn't seen before. It's probably not S3+KL since the 3. Staffel was up on the Baltic coast by the end of the war. The only S3+KK that I know of was lost in a crash on 6 October 1944 but that doesn't mean there wasn't a successor. It could be S3+KH which Steve Sheflin has documented transferring from Großostheim to Reichenau on 23 March 1945.
Straightened out and adjusted copy of the image attached. |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello Rudi,
** Post #3501 – Unless I am mistaken it is: Heinkel-Oranienburg-built He 111 H-20 (WNr. 700628) St.Kz. AL+HH, coded 5J+IL (5J=~1/5 size, I=yellow), small K on upper rudder. It was abandoned heavily damaged at Fl.Horst Schweinfurt, Germany (coordinates 50.048333 10.170000). NOTE: It retains a small “S3” from its prior unit still on its starboard fuselage side. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Data, Steve seem odd, but are sustained by facts, STKZ couldn't be AL+HH, but the 700636 seems to wear AL+BP, but they are most probably Kz's, A1+HH nd A1+BP, 700628 supported some minor "injuries" on jan.45 with the TGr.30, STKZ hv to be in the KU+M.

(Equally, I./KG 4 was receiving a lot of Heinkels in Autumn 1944 "von anderen Verbänden", as other units with the type were converted or disbanded). Schweinfurt was used to some extent by TGr. 30 and was reached by the US Army on 11 April, when the war still had four weeks to run and I./KG 4 was based in Königgrätz (Hradec Kralove) about 450 km away. Obviously planes can move about, so location isn't conclusive. |
