The Ju 88D of the National Museum of the USAF. They still have not fixed the tail number on the displayed aircraft. Chuck |

This aircraft has had many different paint schemes over the years, which tail number are you referring to? |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Look at the autos in the Ju 88 D photo, it was probably taken in the late 1949s or 50s, unless there was a vintage auto show iconcurrent with the aircraft display.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
#3764 and #3765 do show different planes. Just compare the canopy.
#3765 most probably is Ju 88 R-1, D5+EV. Also it seems that it had it's original wheels when the photo was taken, but just painted in silver. Now the plane has the wrong sized wheels that were used for the early Ju 88 versions. |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Simon,
I agree, was focused on the cars in the foreground, didn't pay attention to the canopy. What I also missed was the car closest to the camera was right hand drive, pointing to a UK location. Artie Bob |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
If the late 1940s, possibly in Canada.

Yes, I realize that. As best I can tell, it currently has #105 painted on the tail. What number do you think should be painted on it? Can you explain your comment? https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Vi...-ju-88d-1trop/ |

Google translate The crews Fw.Juchelka, Oblt.Lembke with CN + EL and Ogefr.Klünsch, Ofw.Wörner with TI + VR started together with a third Fi156 at 9.35 a.m. in Munich-Riem for the transfer flight to Bari / Italy, with a commanded stopover in Vicenza; The first stork flight for both pilots. The third stork as the faster plane had soon hung the other two, who, admiring the Alps panorama, did not notice the overflight from Innsbruck and therefore failed to turn towards the Brenner. Both planes continued to fly Along the Inn Valley, they continued to travel westwards, eventually completely losing their orientation. Because they had been trained in blind flight, the crews were unable to approach the Inn Valley upwards through the cloud cover. The Engadin came to Switzerland without being aware of this fact. When the two storks approached Samedan, the two storks were asked to land by the Swiss air traffic control officers by firing flares. Fw.Juchelka and Ogefr.Klünsch, in the place unknown to them, the two with pistols n armed crews were informed by the Swiss ground crew about the landing site, disarmed and brought individually for questioning. The four pilots had to be interned as personnel of a task force, the two Fi156 had to be seized https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/attach...33-png.586785/ 11.50Uhr,LandunginSamedanb/St.MoritzFi156C‐3/trop,W.Nr.1144/1943(Morane‐SaulnierPuteaux)StammkennzeichenTI+VRVerbandskennzeichenDreieck+Y,II.Gruppe/SG2 http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/data:i...BJRU5ErkJggg== 11.45 Uhr, Landung in Samedan b/St. Moritz Fi 156C‐3/trop, W.Nr. 8063/1943 (Fieseler Kassel) Stammkennzeichen CN+EL Überführungskennzeichen BA+RI, II. Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Snautzer
All this can be found in Ries book Deutsche Luftwaffe über der Schweiz 1939-45. What I am wondering about is why Luftwaffe bothered to issue überführungskennz in the first place? The general STKZ should be good enough as I see it. Also was BA+RI really a ferry marking? An aircraft on transfer to Bari carrying the code BA+RI? Sounds more like a good joke to me.....:D Cheers Stig |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello everyone,
Post #3786 - While the rudder/fin “D-9 fillet” is hard to see, I think that the distance from the tailwheel leg to the rudder line suggests an Fw 190 D-9. What does everyone else think? Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |
Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Steve.
My opinion is that this is the FW 190 D-9. The vertical extension strip on the rudder is clear. Ľubo. |

This is clearly a Tiger Moth in USAAF markings. If it was re-captured by the Yanks is something I don't know. Quite a few were handed over to the Americans in Europe by the British, so without seing any important details in the photo, no idea really. Cheers Stig |
