2) According to the well researched P-61 book by Jeff Kolln 42-5543 was named by Anderson Tennessee Ridge Runner The name Mildred is not listed, but it could of course been renamed after it was handed over to a different crew. Your source please? B Rgds Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Stig. Photo of Anderson and Mogan (usual spelling) in a Key Aero mag. from 2017; "Mildred" is actually on the left cowling and she is Jet 622 Black, "Runner" being OD/NG so not same plane. Cowling names were normally supplemental.
Thanks Nick |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Nick,
Thank you very much. Number 13 interests me because I count three captains and two lieutenants. The average crew photo might contain one officer. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Quote:
1/Lt John Anderson (who flew with Lt James Mogan) 1/Lt Raymond Anderson (who flew with Lt John Morris) According to Frank Olynyk John Anderson claimed two victories, both in 42-5543 Raymond Anderson claimed three, in three different P-61s, 42-5573, -5543, -5540 Unfortunately Kolln & Olynyk differs slightly with regards to dates, so I am not going into that. However none of the above aircraft is listed with the name 'Mildred', but it now seems clear that it was John Anderson who named his aircraft 'Tennessee Ridge Runner' and not Raymond A. Does Key explicitly state 'Mildred' was 42-5543? Reason I ask is that I have very few books so well researched as the one by Jeff Kolln B Rgds Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Stig. This is John Anderson and Mogan after name added....
https://www.reddit.com/r/WWIIplanes/..._2nd_lt_james/ This is the same "Mildred" at EOW, note name is only on cowling so not it's regular name. Well-maintained Gloss Black finish reflects Johnson's status as Sqn. c/o. Obviously not "Runner".... https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gall...hter-squadron/ Magazine photo is John Anderson, Mogan, Bob Elmore & Leonard Mapes (4 claims). Sorry don't know where I got 42-5543 from, trying to strain brain. ED. Photo 13. 44-8007, this is most likely post-war when she was assigned to Ninth AF / USAFE for photo/mapping/surveying over Europe; note crew's bags with names, not her regular crew in combat. Regards Nick |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
OK Nick
So if I understand you correctly the Black W 'Mildred' is so far unidentified. Cheers Stig |
Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Afraid so. In the article there are 2 photos referring to Oris Johnson, one is "Mildred" and the other (with Johnson) he's on P-61A "No love! no nothing!" but they are not the same P-61 (different radomes). In the 422 History there's a photo of him with "No love" but no serial shown on any. Would you like the link?
