ME-109 JG 54
On 30/05/1940 a Me Bf-109 from III./JG 54 made a belly landing near Ham 25 km south-west of the town Gent Belgium , it seems that the pilot was safe. Does someone knows his name ?

Re: ME-109 JG 54
Alain,
Peter Cornwell's Battle of France book puts this belly landing on 29 May 1940 and with II./JG53..... No name given for pilot, who was safe. Groet, Leendert |
Re: ME-109 JG 54
A hard to read JG54 list shows 29-5-40 Ltn Siegfried Schmidt g III, and in ink what looks like N Cambrai ( according to the Osprey booklet the unit was I/JG21 becoming III/JG54 on 6-Jun-40). The small 'g' after Schmidt indicates prisoner of war.

Re: ME-109 JG 54
Remi I am afraid the list is all I have, the Osprey booklet says I/JG21 ( III/54) lost Fw Harting killed with two other pilots making crash landings in late May. The list I have shows 25-5-40 Gef. Rudolf Dabelow m, 26-5-40 Fw Rudolf Hartwich shot down Dunkirk taken prisoner but died, and 29-5-40 Ltn Siegfried Schmidt prisoner,

Re: ME-109 JG 54
Hi
Lt. Siegfried Schmidt was captured on the 22. Mai 1940 by Cambrai. Dabelow was from the I./JG 76 and was killed. Fw. Fridolin Hartwich was missing in a combat in the area of Cambrai, on the 26. Mai 1940. He was from the 1.Staffel I./JG 21. Some month later came the report that he was killed. The pilot from the 30. Mai 1940 was possibly Uffz. Richard Woick from the 2.Staffel of the I./JG 21. He had a accident in Guise. Greetings Christian |
Re: ME-109 JG 54
Hi Christian,
Thanks for the corrections, as regards Dabelow he is showm as Gruppe III on my list which I thought was formed from I/JG21, with I/JG76 later being formed into II/JG54. Is you info. definetly correct as to his unit, Thanks Brian Bines |
Re: ME-109 JG 54
Brian, was kind enought to send me the list,
There is some differences with the usual list it name Wagner the Walter lost in 12.mai, it add the 2 losses on 21.june Baukus +Wolz just found in this List , nd in the Rosipal List, gave some Christian names where they are missing , give Knobel+Hilmer+Cercenski possibly 3 MIA when Hamsteede was bombed on 24.july, the more interesting is maybe the loss of Oblt Schön anton dead in.. Tilbury Holland ??? An AdI/AIK report gave at that date a loss near Canterbury without name is it the same loss ??? At last, on 29.june appear a dead man of III.JG54 NAME PRETTY HARD TO READ seems a gefr. ....inbs maybe Wagneninbs , look like as a monkey has use the Keyboard.. Remi |
Re: ME-109 JG 54
Remi, Oblt Schon crashed and was killed attempting a crash landing at Brenley House, Broughton, near Canterbury. Tilbury is on the north side of the Thames some 20 miles east of London,
