Possible Spitfire data plate
 

A friend of a friend has sent me this data plate, he believes it's from a Spitfire but I wouldn't have a clue myself.....can anyone help with any information at all on this:

6S tells me this is an assembly made by Supermarine.

63319 tells me this is the individual number of that assembly.

28.5.40 is the date the assembly was signed off inspected.

Drg No tells me this is the Drawing number that the assembly was made and inspected to.

236 tells me that this assembly was from a Type 236 which is a Walrus. (Spitfire Mk I is Type 300)

01 tells me this assembly was used in the top centre Mainplane.

SH2 tells me it is Sheet 2 of this drawing.

D5 tells me this is the Drawing number change/modification level.

The round stamp with the 6S is the Supermarine inspector sign off.

The AID stamp is the government inspector sign off. Aeronautical Inspection Directorate.

Hi Peter,

How about doing a "tells me" on this Spitfire plate - the one I sent to you in a trade, but, all said and done, got nothing for in return. Let me help your memory: RK858. Be sure to start at the beginning, be honest, and don't leave anything out.

oh yeah...how did that go?

After seeing detailed images of your data plate, Peter Arnold (being the obvious expert that he is) told you he had no idea what it was for. He played dumb...and made you a low-ball offer for it. You agreed, and then the moment he received it, he admitted it was in-fact the main data plate for a RK858, which he obviously knew this the entire time.

Not exactly "honest" behaviour.

Then to further his is dishonest behaviour, he STOLE it.

He never sent you what you agreed to...and he now sits with a data plate worth thousands of dollars.

For someone who prides themselves in their reputation, maybe you should return the stolen plate, or at lease PAY Steve for it?

Sad that people like that are still in this community...makes other legitimate collectors look bad.

Sorry that happened to you Steve. Maybe Peter will look back on how he treated you...and solve this long ongoing issue.

Harrison, if you have evidence that a crime has been committed then you take it to the police. What you do not do is try and fight the issue out on this forum. Any more and the thread will be closed.
