7 June 1944 in France : a JU52 /3mg8e of Verbindungsstaffel/Lfl.Kdo.3 crash

Dear all,

On 7 June 1944, the JU52 /3mg8e Wnr7324 belonging to Verbindungsstaffel/Lfl.Kdo.3 crashed at Cazaux, in the southwest of Bordeaux, killing its crew of four. (« Absturz ins Meer. Bruch 100%”)

The panel recently found (see my latest post) is likely to come from this JU52, and we try to shed some light on this event.

Can you help on the following:

- - JU52/3mg8e : is it the seaplane version of the JU52 ?
- - What is exactly “Verbindungsstaffel/Lfl.Kdo.3”?
- - What was the mission of this aircraft? what was it doing there on 7 June 1944?

- Ideally, the corresponding NVM would be great..

Thanks in advance.

GC

PS : a special thanks Matti who supplied the above data on this aircraft

Thanks Nick and Chris but the JU52 you quote crashed near Dreux,
so, it is another aircraft,

The one I am searching information about crashed at Cazaux, near Arcachon, on the Atlantic ocean coast;

So, I wonder:

- - what was this aircraft was doing there on 7 June 1944….
- -If the JU52/3mg8e is the seaplane version of the JU52 ?
- - the “Verbindungsstaffel/Lfl.Kdo.3” is “liaison squadron of Luftflotte Kommando 3” ?

thanks for your help, as usual.

(a) Ju 52s were used to transport men, correspondence, supplies, ammunition and spare parts to Luftwaffe airfields throughout France. Ju 52 A7+HK of the Luftverhkehrsgruppe was found burnt out at Cazaux on 25 September and that unit had been carrying all these things to bases in Italy and France.
(b) I'd say it was a land plane because of the unit it belonged to.
(c) Yes.

Ju 52/3mg5e Military version, powered by three 619 kW (830 hp) BMW132T radials. It could be fitted with interchangeable floats, skis and wheel landing gear.

Ju 52/3mg10e Similar to the Ju 52/3mg9e, but it could be fitted with floats or wheels.

No, this is not machine gun (/3 mg),
break this correct as Ju 52/3m g3e (three motor, g = Gustav basic version, 3rd variant of Gustav version, e for BMW 132 engines).

Basically the g3e was the dedicated Bomber version (1933/34, for deliver to Luftwaffe 1935 onvards), but most versions onvards (mostly transports of various spezialized marks)
could be fitted out with either skis, wheels or floats. Add "/See" or "(See)" for floatplane!
