Any known JG54 claims in Kurland 16.02.45?

Greetings gentlemen!

Are there any known victory claims by I./JG54 over Kurland pocket on 16.02.45?

Hi Evgeny

Otto Kittel claimed an Il-2 at 1213 hrs SW Dzukste with 2./JG 54, which was witnessed by Georg Zeider.

Kind Regards

Johannes

There were definatly TWO attacks on Il-2's on 14:10-14:20 in the area SW - NW from Dzukste.

Two groups of 4 Il-2's came under attack from Fw190. Each had 1 aircraft damaged with reargunner wounded. In each attack, a Fw190 was claimed shot down. In case of 190shap - by gunner, in case of 502shap - by pilot with forwardfiring guns.

In Renner's report, it must be a mistake about "14 Il-2's", as all flights of Il-2's on that day were of 4-aircraft formations.

Very strange. I am looking through documents of 15th Air Army, and all divisions and regiments report NO enemy met in the air. Also, they report no any air-to-ground attacks in area of Dzukste.

What fighters could engage Fw190's of III./SG3?

Re: Any known JG54 claims in Kurland 16.02.45?

Hell Leo,

First, thanks for posting these new-to-me late-war Fw 190 losses (Post #6).

I am especially taken by F-9 (sic) 638082 because it is only the fourteenth aircraft from within the putative Siebel/Halle-built 638xxx WNr. series.

Interestingly, of fourteen 638xxx entries in my files, eight feature an 8-digit Werknummer:

638010 10; 638010 22; 638010 35; 638010 44; 638011 21; 638011 81; 638025; 638034; 638057; 638082; 638087; 638093; 638096 07; 638102 20.

Finally, if it is indeed an F-9, it would be the only example of that type from within the 638xxx WNr. series.

Respectfully,

Steve Sheflin
