Are you sure about the pilot name and date?

Neither Brian Cull's Twelve Days In May, nor Norman Frank's Fighter Command Losses, both pretty complete, list this name on that date

There is no R Hanson listed as a casualty on the CWGC site for 1940

Hi

Is it possibly that he survived, and therefor do not appear in CWGC database.

Cheers

Hi,

O the 19th May 40

N2430 was abandoned , she was a 56 Sqdn a/c.

Could he have been her pilot ?

Hi again,

From Men of the BoB.

David Harry Wellsted Hanson, 17 Sqdn, he flew at Dunkirk so possibly him.
He bailed out at 100 feet and was killed on 3rd Sept from Hurricane P3539, which crashed at Blockhouse Farm, Foulness. He is buried in All Saints churchyard, Mappleton, Yorkshire .

This is the only Hanson listed in this book.

Meteorological Branch
P/O (prob) W. R. Hanson (73803)

Thenlater issue
F/Lt 1st August 1944.

Could this be your man ?
If he was a Sgt pilot in May 40 to P/O in 41 to F/O in 42 .

Hello to all

Tthe F/O Hanson David Harry Wellstead (KIA) was killed the 3/9/1944 at Foulness (Brickhouse farm) on Hurricane Mk I R-4174 17Sqn
He bailed out but strangely his airplane was still repairable after the crash
As far as I know the P-3539 NN-G made a crash landing the 8/2/1941 near East Dareham
Sgt Furst Bohumir (RTD) (CZ)
Maybe the pilot of the 19th May was the F/Lt Anderson Harry Thomas James (KIA)39021 253Sqn L-1674 shot down by a Bf-109 of the JG 3 at 10:30 in the area of Lille Tournais
Anderson !!Hanson that ‘s very similar !

Regards
Phil

Hello
The N-2430 was destroyed on the airfield Vitry-le-Francois by RAF personal F/Sgt Higginson & Sgt Whitehead when living the place in retreat , he was either US-P or US-C (also destroyed)

Re: HANSON r;, Sgt(pilot) May 19,1940, Hurricane

Hi,

Agree N2430, 19/5/40 .
Book "Men of the BoB" has P3539 as the Hurricane he was flying on the day he was killed.

And, Air Brit P1000 - R9999 has her as Engine cut: overturned in forced landing near Eglin, Moray, 25/4/41; cv to Mk.II DG634 during repair.

What is your reference for R4174 please ?

Thanks

alex
