Redesignation of V./KG 2

Ulf Balke indicates that V./KG 2 became II./KG 51 around 6 Feb 44. However, two aircrfat were still lost 23 Feb 44 marked up with U5 and the first loss of an Me 410 for II./KG 51 was not until 19 April 1944 so does anyone have a definitive date?

Hi Chris,

The relevant document is available online in Bundesarchiv file RL 2-III/58 p.0053.

Dated 6.2.1944:

"Betr.: Umbennung von Kampfverbanden.

1.) Mit sofortiger Wirkung werden umbenannt:

II./K.G. 51 in III./Kampfgeschwader 3

V./K.G. 2 in II./Kampfgeschwader 51 ...".

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks but doesn’t explain why last V./KG 2 loss was 23 Feb and first II./KG 51 loss was 19April

Checking the reference Jim gave (thanks Jim!) the final paragraph on page 2 of the letter accounts for three of the missing weeks:
»Durchführung ist durch die Luftflottenkommandos bis zum 1.3.1944 and Genst.Gen.Qu.2.Abt. zu melden«
("Luftflotte Commands are to be report completion to the General Staff, Quartermaster General, 2nd Department by 1 March 1999")

All orders like this seem say "with immediate effect" (»mit sofortiger Wirkung«) in the opening paracgraph and then give the actual target date in the closing one.

That said (sad). UK education has elderly-classes for such, no?
but we here up in Iceland do.

No, I am not a miracle writer, but I notice such details.

And PS, U5+ codes ex-KG 2 were just kept on V/KG 2 aircraft untill scrapped
in Brunnthal. Just look in book (I helped with research)

Really? We actually have writing class too!

Riots happened be in Londons City Centre (Trafalgar and No. 10) on my second reseach trip to Kew back in 1992. I did not start them, Poll tax did. And I took the type-ing (hammering on an typewrinter) class back in 1973. Later learning spelling near correctly, Yes, I am elderly, I do not riot.
