Ofw. Kobus rest at Ehrenfriedhof Sandweiler/Luxembourg. Crashed in Northern Luxembourg. Hit Overland-Wire-cabels during low-level-flying.

Fw. Vogel looks like crashed near Seffernweich Krs. Bitburg/Eifel. Burried as unkown Airmen at Bitburg-Kolmeshöhe.

Did the 7th and 8th Staffel of SG 4 blong to the 2nd Gruppe or the 3rd? Did this unit add the 4th Staffel per Gruppe like the fighter units?

SG 4 reported another 6 losses on 26-Dec-44. Does anyone have any other information on Fister and Rahofer losses?

Re: SG4 losses on 24-12-1944

Hi all,

I've been researching Fw190 losses on 24 Dec 1944 and have been trying to determine which airplane was downed by the 451st AAA(AW) on that day. The airplane was brought down by a combination of 40mm and .50 caliber fire and the pilot belly landed about 500yds from the guns that brought it down. Apparently the pilot was uninjured and was quickly captured by soldiers of the 451st.

It looks like OFhr Zotloterrer was flying this airplane as he was captured (according to Danny S. Parker's "To Win the Winter Sky") 8 miles southeast of Longuyon. The 451st took one of the propeller blades from this airplane and was quickly painted with the entire 31st AAA Group's scoreboard. That propeller blade currently resides in the entrance of the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade's headquarters and is property of the US Army Air Defense Artillery Museum.

I'll post some photos of it shortly.

Re: SG4 losses on 24-12-1944

After a long period of research, it seems that Fw. Vogel was shot down by 354th FG at about 10:00hrs in the morning of Dec. 24th, 1944 at Seffern, Germany. People still remember the date and the time and after an excavation of the a/c it showed up as a FW-190.

There were always doubts, if the pilot was Zotöterer, Kohbus or Vogel. But now, Vogel seems the one in question by evidencies.

Best wishes !

Zotlötterer came from Vienna and work for the City of Vienna Administration. Last I hear from him is 8 years ago.

Hans,

Danke! A friend of mine found a record of a Heinz Zotlotterer's funeral on 6 August 2006. Hoping it isn't him. If Herr Zotlotterer is still alive, it would be wonderful to see if we can fly him to the US to be reunited with the prop blade of his airplane.

Rémi

Bonjour Remi!

I have been looking for photos of Ofhr. Heinz Zotloterer's Fw190F-8 from 24 December 1944 online, but I have not found any. Would you be willing to share the photos you have? I am working on an exhibit centered on one of the propeller blades from this airplane, which we have at the Air Defense Artillery Museum.

Thanks very much!

Bringing this one back, now that we’re redoing the propeller exhibit. Does anyone have a photo of Zotlotter’s Schwarze 10 after it crashed? I know I have seen one, but I cannot find it anywhere. It would be great to be able to display a photo of the airplane next to its propeller blade.

Thanks!

Jon

Hello Jon,

in "Luftwaffe im Focus" edition no. 8 is an article about the fate of Ofhr Heinrich Zotlötterer on 24 Dec 1944 with two fotos of the belly-landed "black 10".
