1 Sqn Hurricane I
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I am trying, without much success, to tie serial number to aircraft individual letter. It is a machine of the 1 Sqn, JX-R, ????7 from October-November 1940 period. Tim Elkington kindly provided picture of this. Any help will be appreciated. Regards, Michal |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
V7377 was coded JX-R, but I don't know when it was with Number One.

Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello, Hello!!
This picture was taken the 10th november 1940 to mémorise the nomination as S/L of 1 Sqn. of Mark "Hilly" Brown, the departure of "Darkie" Clowes (in white) and the victory of the 8th november of the Free French Jean "Moses" Demozay. This picture was taken in front the new mount of "Hilly" brown the Hurricane V7377 JX.R. From the L to R; "Hilly" Brown, the Czech Sgt A. Zavoral, the P/O Hancock, the Czech, Sgt J. Stefan, "Darkie" Clowes, "Moses" Demozay, P/O JFD Elkington and the P/O Chetham. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Live & learn!!
Where did you get all that from, Many?? = Tim PS Thought I'd better mention that although, in true British fashion, where everything stops for tea, we did take a very long time out for the MoD photo-shoot, we still packed in some operational stuff!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...RAF2/10nov.jpg |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello
Some years ago I have written a big article about "Moses" Demozay (which will become a book in some months) and in his collection there was this photo, given by Pilkington with all infos. I also have written an article about "Cobber" Kain of 73 Sqn. The 1 & 73 but also a part of 501 belonged to 67 Wing in France. I spent many, many hours to study these units and this period. At what pilot belonged this page of Log Book ? Very interesting. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Pilkington? Elkington??
Whose book? Mine, of course!! = Tim |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Sorry, of course JFD Elkington, naturally.
Pilkington was with Cobber kain at the 73 Sqn in France forming with 1 & a part of 501 sqn. the 67 Wing. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello Timothy.
I am confused that I didn't reconize you. You are JFD Elkington, of course, I am sorry. Is it possible to ask some questions (off board) about 1 Sqn. and in particular Moses Demozay and another french pilot who was at (I think) at 197 Sqn. his name is Bokobza I believe he had had an accident in 1943. Thank you for all. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Of course - but I will have ilittle to offer, I'm afraid.
Timothy? I have always been Tim, but the forum would not accept that as my name. JFD? What a waste!! Just as well - there are already 2 other Johns, & 2 other 'J's in the family. = Tim |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Bruce, it is possible to note complete service carrer of V7377 ?
Many, thanks for the picture detail. There is a few other snapshots from that day and that event. Michal |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello Fairlop.
Thank you. I know there are others photos, I am looking for one of them taken by the front with 4 pilots on the left wing of the Hurricane. If you have some of these clichés, it would be glad for me |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello Tim
Thank you I will try to write you off board. Thank you again. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I

Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Bonjour Many,
Please why do you write only a part of No 501 Squadron was attached to 67th Fighter Wing Servicing Unit. According to my files, the full unit was ? Merci. Bernard. |
Re:Bokobza
Plt Off R.Bokobza killed in crash of 197 Sqn Typhoon DN313, 4 miles south of East Fortune, 14 February 1943.

Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Hello Tim.
It is exactly this photo I am looking for. I don't understand why Demozay in his file has kept the first one and not this one. it seem's he was very close with "Kut". |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Bonjour Bernard
If I remember well, at the beginning there only one flight of 501 sqn but at the beginning of the retreat it was the full squadron. Thank you |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Many,
The Whole No 501 Squadron landed at Bétheniville on the 10th of may 1940 at 16h10 as a reinforcment to 67th Wing. A bientôt. Bernard. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Chris - where did Bokobza come in?
I have no record of him?? = Tim |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Thank you Chris.
If you have more infos, I will be happy to have it. It is incredible, but there is nothing written about him in France. I met his brother, 2 years ago near Dijon, he has nothing about him, the only thing he was in England as pilot. he doesn't know if he was Free French or he was enlisted directly in the RAF. How to see the future if you don't keep the memory of the past.... Thank you again Chris. |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
So when did he join the squadron?
|
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
197 Squadron site has entry Sgt R Bokobza, 11/42 killed 14/2/43.
|
Re: Bokobza
I'm afraid I can't add any more to what Franek has stated.
|
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Thanks, Chris - found him - & that he was a P/O in my time. See my PM.
= Tim |
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Do you think, if it will be possible to find a photograph of R. Bokobza?
|
Re: 1 Sqn Hurricane I
Only from a 1cm thumbnail in Jimmy Kyle's Typhoon Tale.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../RAF2/boko.jpg PS I note that 197 Sqn's site has Bokobza as both Sgt & Flg Off. I took the Plt Off from Jimmy Kyle's book. |
