Losses in the New Forest 1941

Good Afternoon All,

I am looking into the loss of three German Aircraft on the 8th July 1941 in the New Forest area. These aircraft are;
Unidentified enemy aircraft crashed Boldrewood.
5612/6N+GK He111H-3, 2/KGr100,shot down by 604SQ,cr Manor Farm Efford,4 killed.
3992/IT+HL He111h-5 ,3/KG28, shot down by 604SQ,cr Slade Farm Pilley,3 killed.

Is anyone able to identify the aircraft brought down at Bolderwood? Details of the KG26 and Bloderwood crews would be most useful also.

Thanks,
Del.

These should all be listed in 'The Blitz, Then & Now, volume 2'.

Brian,

Thank you thats exactly what I was after. It looks like the JU88 from from 3/KFG 106 is the one I'm looking for. Does it record the details of the Crew?
Yes, Slade Farm and Boldre are recorded in many records as the same place. However Slade Farm is actually in a village called Pilley which is the next village.
Thanks again for your help all ways appreciated.
Del.

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941

If the aircraft came down on land, its crash site would have been recorded in this book. Thus, the KuFlGr 106 ac is not what you are after as it is missing on ops as opposed to crashing on land

Del,

Are you sure of the date of the third crash you are looking for .From memory there was a Ju 88 at Ringwood ( I do not know if that counts as New Forest ) in 1943 and a Ju 188 at Exbury in 1944,

Brian,

Yes I am quite sure there were three aircraft brought down in the New Forest following a raid on Southampton docks. HE111's at Boldre and Efford and an unidentified aircraft at Bolderwood. It is the details of this last aircraft that I am having trouble tracing. The Forestry Commision have records of a crash at that location on that date but have no further details. Thanks for your interest. Del.

Try digging up back issues of Aeromilitaria published quarterly by Air Britain. They have been running a list of aircraft crashes in the UK from the beginning of the war. It lists German and British crashes, with locations. The most recent issue I received is up to Sept 1942.

Frank.

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941

Del,

Have checked the Blitz book and my own records and still can only find two Luftwaffe losses crashing on the UK that night. Is there any chance two sections of one aircraft landed at separate locations and were initially reported as two crashes by the Foresty Commision?. The PRO has records of RAF reports on crashed enemy aircraft if anyone has copies for this night and could check it might help,

Hi Brian,

I am in contact with the Forestry Commission about this but they are a bit slow in responding. The two aircraft that were confirmed as crashing locally, although not intact were almost complete. Thanks for your continued interest. Should the FC be able to confirm a crash at Bolderwood I will post all the available details as they don't appear to be widely known

Hello Del,

Dont know if this helps but there is another Luftwaffe loss dated 02.05.41 namely a Ju 88 Wnr.2368 (3Z + DS) which came down in the New Forest. This aircraft of KG77 was shot down by F/Lt Budd and Sgt Evans of "A" Flight of No.604 Sqdn. The aircraft crashed at Little Oaks, Highland Water, Lyndhurst. We applied to the MOD during 1992 for a licence to excavate the site but was refused on the grounds that live ordnance MAY still be on board.

Hi Gary,

I thought the Epping Forest one was A Ju 88 of 6/LG1 shot down on 8/9-12-1940, the incident was covered in a 'After the Battle' magazine article,

Gary,
I like most members of this forum read the latest enteries several times a day.
I am sorry to say this but your posts are driving me up the wall, This is certainly not the place or time for a personal attack but please please can you only post when you have something to actually say, you have an opinion on most threads but, say nothing.

Its great to have someone so keen, but please try and restrict yourself to informed comments.

I hate to 'pile on' but I agree. Some decent threads have become a burden to wade through with so much unrelated or unreadable postings. Most have very little to add to the topics being discussed.
