Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
do not take amazon release dates for real, they are often wayyy behind the actual release dates of books.
if Midland as publisher says January, I would rather believe them :) anyhow, I am looking forward to this book as well as Denes second volume of his work about the air war in Bessarabia cheers phil |

Hello Denes!
Nevermind when your book will appear, its on my "to buy" list already ;) the first volume was very good and I am looking forward to Vol.2 :) and its good to have expenses spread a little over time, as my book budget was heavily burdened recently :) cheers from Vienna phil |
Re: Kursk, the Air Battle

Has anyone gotten this book yet? If so how about a review.

Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
The book arrived from Amazon.UK this week but all I have done is briefly scan it so far. One immediate observation is that there are no profiles in this edition
|
Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
Hello Del!
no book in the Ian Allan series by Bergström has any profiles in it; nevertheless, they are a great read, although IMHO they are a bit expensive for the info they provide, because BC/RS nearly covers the same topics, and in some cases even feature the same text passages... I am looking forward to receiving my copy though too, as the first two volumes have provided me with a very good read as said already... if you are looking for profiles, BC/RS might be better, and Denes´ books on the air war in Bessarabia do have profiles in them as well, although not as good as the Tullis ones in BC/RS. cheers phil |
Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
Phil,
You are indeed correct about the profiles. I confused the 2 series of books |
Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
I have the "Barbarossa" and the "Stalingrad" books of said series and I find them to be a bit like "BC/RS light". Pretty much the same stuff except BC/RS has a much greater depth (incl personal accounts, individual events etc).

Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
Hello!
I got to see "Kursk" yesterday and read a little bit through it and from what I saw and read, this must be the best in the series yet. as there is no corresponding BC/RS to this book yet, the narrative and the pictures are new, and it is amzing how much information IanAllan has packed into the pages. definitely a book to get.... ps.: I did not buy it because my new DSLR is coming next week and this one uses up a lot of funds, otherwise spent on books-but it will surely come in handy for this year´s airshow season :D cheers phil |
Re: Kursk, the Air Battle
Hello,
as an owner of this book, i would say it's a must read. But since i am very interested in air battle at Kursk, i have also to say, some figures are not correspondending with the newest infos. While the air battle is really well described, i am not that satisfied when it comes to the relationship between ground battle and air battle. The picture could be clearer, as described in the book. But anyhow, great work! |
