Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Hi guys, been a long time as I've been really busy. Anyway, a belated Happy 2008 to all.
As the title really: Can anyone supply me, or tell me where to find some colour profiles for the Luft Ju-87D-3? (I say Luft as I know a lot of the Axis forces used them). Cheers |
Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Welcome back Pathfinder!
I have this one, labelled as a D-3 but I am not an expert Regards Chris |
Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Excellent, thanks Chris.
The top image is indeed a D-3 and the bottom a G model with 37mm fixed anti-tank cannons. I already had that image of the D-3 but have decided to use it now. Maybe someone could confirm that it is: Ju.87D-3 'Barli' Serial: T6+BC (W.Nr.2491) Served in the autumn and winter of 1942 in the Stalingrad area. Gruppe 'Der Bamberger Reiter'. |
Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Hello again
Whoa! Put your hands on your head and step away from the PC (or should I say "Put down the brushes and step away from the eisle"?) I have 2 other profiles, let me get back to my home/office and I'll scan and post 'em. Cheers Chris |
Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Forgot to ask anyone if they knew whether the red circlular unit emblem would be on both sides of the Ju.87 fuseleage?

Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
The photo posted by Primoz shows an aircraft flown by a Knight's Cross winner - can't remember his name off hand. Will have to look it up when I get home.

Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Thanks Chris :) I'm not painting yet anyway, just planning compositions and gathering details for components.
Primoz that's a great photo! However, it is labeled as a D-1. Was there any external difference between the D series? I have now seen photos of D-3s with both 5 and 6 exhausts. Some have the siren props on the spats, others don't. |

All from the excellent Japanese publication: Aero Detail 11 Junkers Ju87D/G Stuka:

Re: Wanted: Colour schemes for German Ju-87D-3
Hi, Pathfinder...
Some early production Junkers Ju87D-1s had the Ju87B sub-type's undercarriage spats, ie big and chunky, and without the leather cover on the leg. According to Squadron/Signal Junkers Ju87 in action, this was because of flight trial weaknesses in the landing gear forks and mainwheels of the new-style undercarriage, so the decision was taken to go with an arrangement that was already proven to be satisfactory. Regards... :) |

Thanks guys, great info. Think I'm going with the spat sirens in my artwork.
