DFC and DFM Recipients

I am looking for a two volume set of books, which detail all of the recipients of the DFC (Vol:1) and DFM (Vol:2).

All i know is that it was a private publication and the print run was limited to only about 100-200 copies per volume. The books were published sometime in the last 3-5 years and were quite expensive, approximately £125.00 a book!

Is there anyone out there who has these books who would be kind enough to pass on the title, author and ISBN numbers.

Thank you in advance.

Hi again!

I have checked search engines such as abebooks.com but cannot find the two above books available anywhere. Can anyone suggest other sites etc where i might find available copies?

Thanks in advance.

Re: DFC and DFM Recipients

David,

If you need a list of all the gallantry awards to Commonwealth Air Forces during WW2, you could not do better than Honour the Air Forces by Michael Maton (Token Publishing). It is just list of awards and there are no recs or citations.

I have both volumes of The DFM Register and it is well worth the money. As you are probably aware it contains copies of most of the recommendations for the DFM awarded during WW2.

As far as I am aware the DFC book that quote does not contain the recs.

The following will give you a list of DFC & DFM for Members of RAAF
Open the following Website http://www.awm.gov.au
On right of page select & open “Roll of Honour”
On left of page select & open “Nominal Roll”
Select “Second World War”
Select Honour
For Service Select RAAF from drop down menu
For Honour Select DFC or DFM and press Search

DFC lists 2183 records
DFM lists 414 records

Kind regards

Ross

Re: DFC and DFM Recipients

David,
These are actually two, two volume works. Thus four volumes in all. The DFC book has only the citations that appeared in the London Gazette. The DFM book has no citations (the few that appeared in the LG appeared in Tavender's earlier book listing all DFM awards) but instead has the recommendations for the DFM (from Air 2 I assume).

I would suggest phoning Savannah Publishing and checking with the horse's mouth. If you follow the link in Amrit1's post above to the Savannah website, just below the initial book listing is a subject list. Follow Gallantry Awards and you will find both books listed.

Frank.

Hi Gents,

Thank you all very much for your assistance. I will take Frank's advice and contact the company direct. I will also check out the site for the RAAF as well. Once again, thank you very much,

David.

Hi David

Unless you are desperate to spend a lot of money, have you considered trying your local libarary?

My library has both sets available. If your library doesn't have them I feel certain they would order copies for you to borrow from the British Lending Library (a fee is normally charged I believe, £4 - £5 per copy).

Just a thought from a poor citizen!
Cheers

Re: DFC and DFM Recipients

FYI on the Canadian DFC's awarded in WW2 including those who served in other than Canadian forces. This information from Veterans Affairs website Canada. Don't know if you are gathering all Allied or just RAF.

Second World War: 4,018 to RCAF, plus 213 first bars and 6 second bars
Second World War: 247 to Cdns in the RAF, plus 34 first bars (also 358 to FAF/RAA/RNZAF in RCAF, plus 23 first bars)*

Re: DFC and DFM Recipients

Hi Gents,

Thank you Brian, will give that option a try.

I am generally interested in all DFC and DFM awards from all Allied and Commonwealth personnel. The books are expensive but would make a great addition to the library.

Many thanks guys,
