Hi Alain,
According to my files, this happened on 12/12/1943 and only Erich Schulze was killed. The other crew members were injured and the aircraft damaged 70 %. Rgds |
Re: Le Culot airfield Ju-88 ground looped
Hi Alain,
Looked up the page and found (as Montana says) 12-12-43 Ju 88 6/KG6 144593 Bruchldg. St. Culot FF Uffz Werner Trumpener, Uffz. Rudolf Backer, Bf Ogef Heinrich Siebert all inj. Bs Uffz Erich Shulze killed 44. In my last post it shows Uffz Werner Trumener killed on 24-8-44 however in the alphabetical lists Uffz Werner Trumpener is shown killed on 24-8-44 so it is the same pilot, Regards Brian Bines |

Hi Chris,
Can you tell me the name of the Spitfire pilot who claimed the Ju 188 near Chièvres and was shot down ? Is he a member of the 401 Squadron ? Thanks. Rgds. |

Re: Le Culot airfield Ju-88 ground looped
Ju 188 E-1 260307 3E+LH. Fg Off Robert Buckles of 401 Sqn was the pilot entertained by KG 6 but the kill was credited to Flt Lt Lorne Cameron

Re: Le Culot airfield Ju-88 ground looped
Many thanks, Chris. Did P/O Buckles tell you where exactly he parachuted down ? I think it is S. of Chièvres.
Rgds. |
Re: Le Culot airfield Ju-88 ground looped
Buckles said his Spitfire suddenly lost power and the engine began to smoke and as he was too low, immediately baled out at about 800'. He landed behind small village (possible Attre?) and after being helped by locals, was captured shortly afterwards and taken to a local jail from where the KG 6 pilots took him to lunch!

Re: Le Culot airfield Ju-88 ground looped
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your information relating to P/O Buckles. In his combat report, F/Lt L.M. Cameron told that P/O Buckles "was last seen at 8.000 ft gliding south from Chièvres." The Ju 188 crashed between Mevergnies and Attre, while according to local witnesses an Allied aircraft crashed at Ellignies-Sainte-Anne (S.W. Chièvres). Rgds. |
