132 (Norwegian) Wing RAF

I have heard that the Norwegian Ministry of Defense has commissioned an upcoming history of 132 (Norwegian) Wing RAF.

Does anyone know who the author is?
When it is to appear?
Any chance of it appearing in translation?

Thanks,
David Isby

Would be nice news. I can see nothing on their website about this, but maybe some of our Norwegian colleagues know more.

Hi,

I live in Norway but haven't heard anything about this either (not that that means it's not happening). I'd imagine some of it with draw from Vera Henriksen's second volume of her history of the Luftforsvaret. Actually I'd imagine that possibly her or someone like Cato Guhnfeldt will be involved if such a project is being undertaken.

I wouldn't hold your breath about an English translation though.

Cheers,

Tim

This is a completely new book by Cato Guhnfeldt, partly sponsored by the Norwegian Air Force.
Cato has spent some 2-3 years researching this book. Several trips have been made to the various bases used by 331 and 332 Sqns in Britain. He has located and interviewed as many as possible of the surviving personnell that served at or near these bases. Also civilians in the vicinity have been interviewed and have come up with a lot of interesting facts.
Lots of new and unpublished photos have been discovered, as well.

The book will be quite big, some 700-800 pages, and will be offered for sale this autumn. It is presently at the printers.

Cato originally planned two volumes, but the Air Force wanted a single volume due to costs involved.

I really look forward to this book. It is not really about the 132 Wing as such, but covers the 2 Norwegian Spitfire Sqns in detail.

Tusen takk Stein.

This is good news indeed. I had thought Cato would be involved if such a project was happening.

Looking forward to this with great anticipation.

I have been collaborating a bit with Cato on these books. I am helping him out with information on colours and markings. Profiles are being made by Kjetil Åkra.

Cato has told me (no later than last week) that there will be three (!) volumes. The first volume will cover 1941-42, (i.e. only Hurricanes and Spitfire Mks.II and V) and will be published this autumn/fall.Cato is currently doing the layout, thus it is not at the printers yet. I have seen printouts of the first two chapters, we really have something to look forward to.

One of Cato's principles is to have total control himself. He would never have accepted to do a "light" version.

Is Cato Gunfeldt's book in print? Thought it might be a good Christmas gift (for myself!)

Not in print yet, Mikkel, I think vingtor has more up-to-date information.

I am currently hard at work to finish the profiles to go with this first volume (Hurricane IIbs and Spitfire IIbs, Vas and Vbs). There are a few surprises here, both regarding markings and camouflage.

I think everyone will be amazed at the photographic material in this fantastic work by Cato, not to mention the detailed information in the text.

Kjetil/Stein

Since I am from Sweden, I have no problem reading Norwegian and I am highly interested in finding out how to obtain the book(s)!!

Cheers

Re: 132 (Norwegian) Wing RAF

The book will unfortunately not be ready for Christmas. Most (if not all) the text is ready, but the profiles are not .... Kjetil and I are still arguing about the colours. http://forum.luftfart.museum.no/foru...ileys/wink.gif

Well, last time I spoke to Cato, about a couple of weeks ago, he said that he wanted Kjetil, I and himself to meet very early next year, or when the profiles are ready, to place them into the book and to get the captions done.

Any news? To my great disappointment I found out that I have missed out on Vera Henriksen's 'Fem år i utlegd' that is no longer available it seems.

So I want to be ready this time...

I think I can say that it will be out this year, and sooner rather than later.
