Some parts of Fw 190
1 Attachment(s)
During exploration near Szczebrzeszyn (SE of Lublin, Poland, nearby ex luftwaffe airfield in Klemensów) I' ve found some parts of plane that had crashed here in summer of '44. Residents I' ve talked with were sure that it was German plane shot down by russian fighter. After receiving some hits german plane turned into a ball of flame, made a 3/4 of circle, and crushed into a gulley in nearbay coppice (pilot died in flames). Few years ago elements of plane such as wing, engine, gauges etc has been sold, so, excluding very lovable people ( ;-) ), I' ve nothing in local households. My metal detector found only small piece of that bird. I' m not sure it is Fw 190 but one of witnesses told me plane had one, round (that mean radial) engine so it could be truth. As I lend my camera I've got only paint pictures. One of the elements is especially interesting but it's bent and rusty.
Any ideas? I also wonder which unit was this plane from. It's hard to outgess and I have no archive files. Could someone help? |

RT
Definately looks like some parts from a BMW 801 radial engine - so Fw190 is a possibility as well as a few month types. regards MS |

Photo #4 appears to be the rocker arm head cover at the top of each cylinder.

Re: Some parts of Fw 190
First of all, I' d like to thank each of you! Frankly speaking after few days since I wrote this post and noone had asnwer me I've lost any hope to solve that mystery. Now I know why this forum is such incredible place- there is no question can hide :)
Our part 4th really looks like the part found by Tony. At least I'm sure those are parts of BMW 801 (previously I had to check all the elements of plane, thousands of parts and hundreds of pages of the manual). Now I need to recognize the rest. It could be difficult as those could be parts placed inside of engine. Impossible to notice in the photos. @RT Haker is from the Ostfront LW losses list I've got from my friend. As it turned out the pilot died in ... the West. So it must be a mistake in the document. Next two pilots you recognized are connected with Deblin. Unfortunately it's to far :( To have sure it was a pilot of our plane he should crashed between July and August '44 near places like Zamosc (Zamocz) or Klemensow. So I have three men less to check ;) |
Re: Some parts of Fw 190
This would be rather a ground attack aircraft from one of SGs. A number of them crashed in SE Poland.

Re: Some parts of Fw 190
Hello
@Franek Your suspicions could be true. As I know, the accident happen when Klemensów airfield was in Russian hands. It's very possible that retreating Germans launched attack on enemy air base using SG unit. Now I'm wondering is it possible to find out something more about that unit and plane? @RT Thanks for the message. You'll receive my reply soon. |
Re: Some parts of Fw 190
During the restoration of part nr 4 I've noticed some mysterious numbers and letters on the interior side. As it's broken and there is a lot of material missing I can only recognize this:
...L- UDAI (in fact it's something like I, C or L) - S ? - ? ? ...0- 30523 ...01 2536 (small size) |
