II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Hi guys
Has anyone the losses of II/JG2 for 31 December 1943? Yes, I am seeking the possible identity of the FW190 claimed by Screwball Beurling on this date. Thanks in advance Brian |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Brian,
All I have is two Fw190's of 12th staffel with one plot killed (Quimperle) and one wounded (landing at Garl), and two 109's of 5th Staffel one pilot killed one wounded this day. Perhaps Beurling's victim got out OK., Regards Brian Bines |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Concur with Brian B-2 x FW 190s (only one in combat) and 2 x Bf 109 Gs (both in combat). II Gruppe had the Bf 109s and it was 12 Staffel for the FW 190s. I think that JGr Sud/Ost were also involved? The only confirmed claims I have that day were 4 dest for 165 Sqn and 9 for USAAF

Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Found it. 1/128 lost a FW 190 on take off whilst JGr Ost lost4 x Bf 109 Fs, a Bf 109 G and JGr West suffered 2 FW 190s lost in a mid-air collision. Nothing appears to match with Beurling

Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Hi Brian and Chris
Do you want the good news or the bad? The good news is that I will endeavour to stop drinking - the bad news is that the date of Beurling's claim was 30 December not 31st. Ooops! May I ask you to have another look at your records please? Apologies and thanks Brian |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
What about the loss of the Fw190A-1 110073 near Castels, air-fighting with B17 pilot jump-out Name ?? otto Stammberger

Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Brian,
Early Christmas drinking ? All I have for the 30th is Ltn. Josef Schirmer (ex II/JG54) + shot down attacking Bombers at Senlis Fw190A6 550910 III/JG2, and Uffz Eberhard Bochert + in Fw190A6 1065 fell attacking Bombers at Nugent 9/JG2. II/JG2 lost five 109's with four killed and one pilot wounded, Regards Brian Bines |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Remi: I had included Stammberger and have always wondered why there was a parachute in the trees at the bottom of the garden!
Brian C: Are you sure you have the right date & year this time? I concur with Brian B-Schirmer at Senlis, Borchert at Nogent & the rest were Bf 109s. 403 Sqn claimed 2 ac, 412 Sqn 1 & USAAF 6 with an further 5 probables and 9 damaged. Presume you know that JG 26 and I/JG 3 were operating this day? |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Thanks Brian and Chris
This is the information I had been given, but .......... Beurling claimed one Fw190 destroyed at 13.35 7m W Compiegne. The 412 Sqn probably fought mainly with II./JG 26 from Cambrai-Epinoy. This Gruppe lost two 190s. One was sld by P-47 and one by Spitfire. Uffz. Schnier of 5.1JG 26 was sld 2 km S Romaine and is mentioned as downed by Beurling. But the location is about 150 km NW from Beurling's claim! There was II./JG 2 very active close to Compiegne area between 13.30-14.00 too. I believe Beurling's victim should be find in this Gruppe but unfortunately again no further details to JG 2. Or Uffz Heinz Wyrich 5/JG26 – wounded and crashed south of Romaine. Now that I/JG3 are in the equation, I am really confused. Cheers Brian |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Brian,
I/JG3 lost three 109's on the 30th as far as I could see - Uffz.Wenzter + in combat (P47's ?) at Rocroix, Gef. Kling + (P47's ?) at Charleville both of 2nd. Staffel and Fw. Becker 1st Staffel missing, Regards Brian Bines |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Me 109 was commonly mistook for Fw 190. What Buzz wrote in his report?

Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Good point, Franek
Beurling's wingman on this occasion claimed a Bf109 damaged. I hope to obtain copy of Beurling's report this week. Cheers Brian |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Hello,
Fw. Wolfram BECKER, 1./JG 3, crashed about 2 km south of Willerzie (B) at few km of the Belgo-french border on the 31st December 1943. In the verlustmeldung, he is stated as 'vermist' and its crash location is 'unbekannt'. During the dig I managed in last summer we found very few parts of his aircraft. We suggest it was recovered some weeks after the fall as the manuscript note on the verlustmeldung states it ('gefallen'). Wolfram Becker rests now at Lommel cemetery, he was first buried at Houx. Uffz. Karl WENZLIK and Gefr. Werner KLING (both of 2./JG3) crashed respectively near Rocroi and Neufmanil (in France). Best regards. ClinA-78 |
Re: II/JG2 31/12/43 losses
Oops!
Losses of I./JG 3 occured on the 30th December 1943, claimed most probably by 353th FG P-47. Best regards ClinA-78 |
