Lt Urban Drews kill list?

hi

Quick question I havnt been able to find a list of kills for Urban Drew.

I'm keen to know how many kills he had marked on the canopy of 'Detroit Miss' at the time of his October 7th mission where he shot down 2 Me262s

I recall they were his 4th and 5th kills but cant find anything to say so

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks
Travis

Drew also destroyed a Ju 52 on the ground on 16 June at Toussos/Le Noble so that would have been on his totals.

The question is whether or not he put the 11 Sep and 18 sep scores on his ship before 'official' 8th AF VCB confirmation - they often took 4-6 weeks to get throught the system.

no telling how reliable this decal is but it would represent post Oct 7 with the seven victory flags on canopy rail

Short answer - as few as three and as many as 5 prior to shooting down the two Me 262s

The 361 FG web page has this photo of Drew after his return from the sortie when he destroyed the Me 262s (according to the caption)

http://www.361fg.com/Main/Enlarge/375fs/drew.htm

Those seven victory flags probably include the Me 262 victories so before the action there were most likely five of them

I SPECULATE that five is the right number to account for the 1 ground, four air scores - but I have never seen a photo of 44-14164 during the late September/early October timeframe.

Cheers for the interest guys,

I just had a reply from a member of the 361stFG association who say Drew mentioned having 5 kill marks at the time of his double kill.

okay, think it was the BV 238, think he got it as a staffing kill (story I had read said it was a "kill")

believe he thought it was a BV 222, only finding out much later it was a BV 238

(at the time, thought it was funny, 3 or 4 planes attacked, but Drew got the kill)

(read about in a WWII Mag, the main story was the fight with the 262's, with a side bar story about the attack on the BV 238)

(should of been in Sept of 44)

H_S - whatever the story was about, the only 8th AF VCB ground score award to Drew was the aforementioned He 111K.

Hi,

once again here is a link to history page of 361 FG website

http://www.361fg.com/Hist.htm

and it mentions the flying boat incident as taking place on September 17. By the way, Stan Stokes made a wonderful painting depicting this incident called A big victory

On Sept 18, the 375 FS of 361st FG scored as follows per 8th AF VCB

Drew He 111 (gnd)
Rogers (.5) BV 138 (gnd)
Travis (.5) BV 138 (gnd)

Hello
in old Aeroplane Monthly (sometimes early 90s IIRC) there was an article on the 18th Sept strafing of a big 6 engined flying boat but the conclusion was that the flying boat was a ex French, IIRC Laté 523, not BV 238. Conclusion was based on interviews of German witnesses
