I thought the same Remi,

it`s definitely a german plane, the document comes from a german war diary;

can`t locate the unit with that code, i hoped somebody else can

Hi all

This was the Ju 88 A-5 / 5277 from 6./LG 1, which crashed because engine trouble on 26. July 1941 near Kerkyra/Korfu into the water.
The crew was: Lt Horst Drognitz + / Uffz Hans Broemel wounded / Uffz Herbert Puchert + / Uffz Erich Wrusch +.
My source is LG 1/1, page 457.

best wishes

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

Somehow the document speaks of a "dreimot. Flugz.", or three-engined airplane....

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

Italian planes mostly had three-engine (Cant 1007, Savoias, etc.) and the code number - maybe italian code ?? - any specialist for italian airplanes there ??

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

The message is: "Just received message as follows from the Italian Navy as follows: "Navy Korfu announces, that on 26.07.1941, 10.30, a three-mot a/c BCIZ 329 turned over during emergency ditching attempt, 2 dead, 2 seriously injured."
I understand this message as coming from the Regia Marina with no LW a/c involved.

Hi

Was the 329 aircraft serial? What kind of aircraft??

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

BCIZ 329 is not the acronym of any type of Italian aircraft: it’s possible it was a civilian aircraft (code I-BCIZ flight 329) but it’s only a supposition.

It can`t be a plane of LG 1, although the date matches.

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

Hi all

The skz of the Ju 88 A-5 / 5277 was "BC + IZ"
Is this fact convincing ?

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

hello JoMe,

In the book of Peter Taghon are`nt any Code letters of this plane refered. Besides we don`t have here a code in form of L1+...P as usual by 6./LG1. What is your source about it?

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

Hallo

My source is the flight-log of the ATG-pilot Rolf Baltabol. He makes the acceptance-flight with Ju 88 A-5 / 5277 / BC + IZ on 12. May 1941 in Leipzig.

best wishes

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

thanks JoMe,

Maybe, this strange code (BC+IZ) for a plane of LG 1 could be an older one, bevor they got the L1+... codes.

best regards

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

Funny thread,:D

BC+IZ is the Stammkennzeichen of the aircraft, L1+.. is a Verbandskennzeichen.

Re: Fatal accident in Corfu

That is very interesting Peter,

give us please a little more info about theese "Stammkennzeichen".
Do you mean, the planes got it in the factory and later got a new one from their unit?

That is what thougt.
