Thanks Peter

However, V4+HA was apparently flown by Alexandr Mauke - anyway, that's the one I'm interested in.

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Brian,

I have that listed on September 6, 1939, as follows:

Stabsstaffel KG1 Heinkel He111H (5584). Attacked by Bf109Ds south-west of Rawa Mazowiecka during reconnaissance mission east of Lodz. Badly damaged by Oberlt Josef Kellner-Steinmetz (Staffelkapitän) of 3./ZG2 and crash-landed and burned out on south bank of the Pilica river, east of Tomaszow, 7.15 a.m. FF Oberlt Alexander Mauke captured wounded, BO Oberfw Karl Bartzik, BM Uffz August Windisch, and BF Uffz Hans Pawlowski all wounded but evaded capture. Aircraft V4+HA 100% write-off.

Is this incorrect ?

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Hi Peter,

of course this is correct.
This LG1`s plane on 03.09.39 was from 7.(K)/LG1.

Robert

Hi, Brian

Could you pls contact me off board? Just got a war diary with losses covering this period sent to me that will probably answer most of your questions.

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

If it is not a problem I would like to ask about another 2 downed planes:
1 IX 39 / Hs.126 / 2.(H)/21 / lost near Wejherowo (crew? code? W.Nr. ?)
13 IX 39 / Ju.87 / 4./186(T) / lost after attack on Kepa Oksywska (place? crew? code? W.Nr. ?)

Thank you in advance!
Andrzej

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Sorry about late answer...

Been on holidays for three weeks.
The only loss I have on 1.9.1939 for 2.(H)/21 is P2+MK crewed by Oblt Rehdanz which was shot down at Bitow by a Bf 110.

From the above details it seems friendly fire claimed a lot of aircraft....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Hello Stig,

thank you for your reply. Indeed you are right - Hs.126 from 2.(H)/21 (Olt. Rehdanz and Lt. Schmidt were taken POW) was downed by two Bf.110 from I./ZG 1 (anyone know the pilots names?). But there was also second plane which crashed in Wejherowo near cement plant (also Hs.126 from 2.(H)/21!). In the wreckage two burnt corpses were found.

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

There was no second Hs 126 of 2.(H)/21 lost on this day. Next loss occurred on 2.9.39 in other area.

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Hello Robert,

I know that:
1) 3 Hs.126 from 2.(H)/21 were under command of GAK I
2) in the "Erinnerungen an den Feldzug gegen Polen im Jahre 1939" on 3 IX one can find information that from the reconnaissance platoon of GAK I only 1 plane is available
3) on 1 IX Polish soldiers found in Wejherowo wreckage of the plane with 2 dead bodies inside

Based on this information I have assumed (of course this might be wrong!) that the plane which crashes on 1 IX in Wejherowo was Hs.126 from 2.(H)/21.
If I am wrong please explain why on 3 IX GAK I had only one available Hs.126 and what plane was found on 1 IX by Polish soldiers.

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

And I have all personal losses of this unit and I know that your assumption is wrong. And even if this document is reliable this plane could be just damaged e.g. in taxying accident and thus not available for some time.

Regards

Robert

Re: Lw losses in Polish Campaign

Thank you - I do agree that the plane might be just damaged or in small repairs but in that case the question of the wreckage with the two dead bodies still remains.

Have a nice day,
Andrzej
