Luftwaffe loss 8.12.44 at Neede, Holland

Two pilots from 127 Squadron (F/S Griffin & Attwooll) shared in the claim of a Bf109 destroyed near to the village of Neede in eastern Holland. The combat took place at around 1230pm on 8.12.1944. Following the air to air combat the enemy fighter was followed down and was seen to crash in flames. No evidence of a parachute was seen.
Can anyone help in identifying the enemy aircraft and the identity of the pilot.
Thanks
Andy

Thanks for that link.
However there are no BF109 losses on the 8.12.44.
Could the aircraft have come down over the border in Germany.
Neede is only 3km from the German border.

Andy,

Are you sure about the date?
In our Loss Register we have three Luftwaffe entries for 8th december 1944:

Arado 234 near Herwijnen, further details missing
Ju 88 S-3, Wn 330964 of 1./LG 1 crashed Zuidbroek, province of Groningen, FF Fw. R. Butz.
Ju 88 S-3, Wn 330959 of 4./LG 1 crashed near Groede, south of Vlissingen (Flushing), FF Fw. G. Bohlmann.

We've got no Luftwaffe losses with minor (< 60%) damage for 8th december 1944

Andy,

Neede is about 10 km from the German border.
Still, 10 km is not that much but.....

Brilliant information. Can someone tell me what the asterisks (*) against some of the aircraft mean?

Thanks.

Nick,
The asteriks mean that the damage was more than 60% thus total loss.

Hello Andy,
What was the target that day for 127 Squadron?
(a target near a railway line?)

The operation for the day was an armed recce Enschede-Munster-Dorsten.
Eight A/C from 127 Sqn were joined by 8 A/C from 66 Sqn.
They took off from B.70 (Antwerp-Deurne ) at 1130.
127 sqn dive bombed a factory at Neede (rA2394).
The ORB states that there were 3 direct hits a chimney was seen to colapse and a railway line was hit and cut.
66 Sqn attacked a train at Burgsteinfurt.
The squadrons landed at B.60 Grimbergen at 1300.

I have a copy of the log book of one of the pilots on this op and it confims the destruction of the Bf109. Copy attached.
