Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Hi all! :)
I'm new to this excellent Forum! I love World War II stories since I was a child, especially about aviation. Sorry if I commit some errors writing in english, since I'm Italian. By now, my greatest effort is trying to write the Bf 110 Voice for italian "Wikipedia". Although I have several books about the Bf 110, I lack a lot of informations, especially about the historical missions. Do you know where can I collect informations about Bf 110 Zerstoerer Gruppen deployed, number and type of missions flown, which bombers escorted, victories, losses, etc... ? At the moment, I'm stopped writing Bf 110 history at the beginning of July 1940. Thank you for your help! |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Suggest you get hold of Vasco & Cornwell's book "Zerstoerer"

Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Thanks for suggestion! I just went to Google Books to see it, hoping for some free preview, but unfortunately it does not allow preview... anyway, thanks!

Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
If you post here which books you presently have on the Bf 110, I might be able to steer you through the minefield of Bf 110 myths that prevail to this day.

Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Thank, Vasco!
The main books I own about the Bf 110 are: - (italian): Giampiero Piva, Nico Sgarlato, Angelo Falconi, "I Distruttori - Me.110 - Me.210/410 - Ju.88C - Do.335", Delta Editrice, 1997, Parma - (english): John Weal, "Messerschmitt Bf 110 Zerstörer Aces of World War 2", Osprey Publishing, 1999, Oxford (UK) ...and several other historical books and magazines with some articles about the Bf 110. Then, I read other informations mainly over Internet. As I wrote above, currently I'm looking for Bf 110 historical data and missions mainly to write the italian article in italian "Wikipedia". Here it is the link: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Bf_110 If you take a look there you will see my Bf 110 article until now (although I guess you and many others don't understand italian, but no problem). Any data and/or suggestions are welcome. :) |

Machinist,
As I know only one Italian word, 'Bastardo!' I am unable to read your Wikpedia article. I learned that word when I was at a European Cup final in the early 1990s which took place at Wembley between Samdoria and Barcelona. I was with the Sampdoria fans and that was where I learned that word. Perhaps you may wish to take up Chris Goss's suggestion. |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
LOL!
Not properly a nice word! I will follow your suggestions. Meanwile, sorry if I ask: do anyone knows details about the 10 July 1940 mission in which Bf 110s were involved, across the Channel? |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Hi Machinist
What information do you require? I'll see if I can help. Cheers Brian |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Hi! Thanks for your help.
I would like a database where to see data about operative missions of Bf 110s, day by day, in Battle of Britain. But, at the moment, in lack of a complete database, at least I would like to collect informations about the mission of 10 July 1940, in wich Bf 110s where involved. I read that was a bomber escort mission (Do 17 or Ju 87) and about 30 Bf 110s were involved, intercepted by RAF Hurricanes. However, I don't know which units (on both sides) were involved, the numbers and the losses. Moreover, it's not clear to me if the german bombers were successfull or not in attacking some british ships that day, and the eventual losses. Thanks! :) |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Until now, searching on the Forum, i found this Thread about 10 July 1940:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...july+10th+1940 This says that there was a KG 2 Do 17 escort mission by Bf 110s, but no much details. Any of you knows details about numer of planes, losses and eventually british ships sunk? |
Re: Bf 110 in Battle of Britain
Meanwhile, I was reading about the EGR 210. I have been able to collect informations about the Squadron Commander and types of Bf 110s employed; however I lack informations about Gruppe strenght of airplanes at the 13 August 1940 (Adlertag) and under wich command (Jagdflieger or Fliegerkorps) the EGR 210 operated at that time. Do you know, pehraps? Thanks
