Help ID JG53 Pilots
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, I picked up these recently from a batch of JG53 photos being sold on ebay.
Does anyone recognise these men? Thanks Ben |

I think the first guy could possibly be Leutnant Herbert Broennle. A lot of facial features match.
What do you think? |

Ok, I will just carry on regardless.
I got this one from the same seller. I have a particular interest in this pilot. This is Hans Moller of JG53, shot down March 1943 and taken prisoner. Just by chance, I discovered a friend of mine has his Wehrpas: http://aufhimmelzuhause.com/id109.htm At first, I didn't thnik it was the same person, combat has aged him so much but there can be no doubt, same eyes, same ears, same smile. The timeframe of all these pilots photos fit, being early 1943. On the back of 2 of the photos the writting says 1696124a R.Bawaumann. Does that mean anything to anyone? |
Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
I haven't seen these gents before, sorry - one DOES look familiar to me, but I'm not sure that it's the person I think it is.
Lemme check around and see if I can find you a match facially. I think you might be right on the first one. If you don't get much of an answer here, you can always try http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/index.php - the LEMB board or axishistory.org. They're pretty good for ID'ing pictures. And great score on the eBay find, BTW. Must have made a great early Christmas gift for you! |
Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
Have you tried to match those photos on the vast 3 volumes of JG 53 "PIK AS" History by Jochen PRIEN? It is a "velluva" set of books, well written and with more than a thousand pics overall...I am sure you will find your match...or you can try to ask him personally, as he is a member on this Forum...
Will have a look at my 3 volumes while home, on Christmas... Yours Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
By the way, the guy on the right side indeed looks familiar...an early ( 1939-40 ) member of JG 53???

Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
Schirmmutze you might show a little more patience in expecting an answer. This is not a designated "instant answer" forum. Also Adrianno's suggestion of looking at Prien's JG 53 history is an excellant suggestion.

I get a bit too excited sometimes, no offence meant! :o Thanks for all the help, I will look into buying Prien's books. Are they expensive? A fellow member of WAF kindly scanned a photo from one of the volumns that shows Moller but his face isn't very clear. |

Sorry about that, lack of sleep. LOL.:D |
Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
Schirmmutze,
YES, each volume - of the 3 set volume of PRIEN´s work on JG 53 - costs 90 US$, BUT they are really worth! A magnificent work of HISTORY, with interviews, a lot of photos, etc...One of the actual HISTORIANS I trully admire. You won´t be disappointed. Yours and a Merry Christmas Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: Help ID JG53 Pilots
Merry Christmas Adriano and to all here!
I had a very lucky discovery today. Looking on youtube I found this footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0vIOCEDjoI Here's the extended footage (unfortunately a lot lower quality) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTuKqr7N0h4 I am convinced it was filmed on or around the same day that the portrait photos that I bought were taken. I believe Leutnant Moller is the one who picks up the dog with his glove and passes it around. I recognise 2 other "dog handlers" from the other photos that were on ebay but I didn't manage to win those. More well known faces in the film include Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke and Günther von Maltzahn. My Christmas came early! |
