Hi Franck,
nice collection again. :) #1 -the first photo is not a Bf 109. Possible Bf 110 or He 111 engine? |

Re: 19/12 - Bf109s on eBay & something else
Hii there,
Back to #1, as pointed by Falcon. Bf109F, 1./JG51, summer 1941, in Russia. For example the other side: http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=4791 Number 2.! 9./JG2: "Gelbe 5"! Let's say Dark Yellow 5. 1°! Beautiful narrow black cross; 2° Clear fin with a dark rectangle and some victory bars at horizontal tailplane level; 3° One clear spot at ~ tip; 4° "Yellow 5" painted on rectangular washed camouflaged area; 5° my only problem is that emblem on nose... to conclude it's WNr.5274 flown by Machold. After a while I decided to correct the former sentence: In fact, this emblem is not a problem, since the plane did wear a White 15 in 1./JG2, still with Machold, AND the emblem! Hence I am going to conclude that YES it's Machold plane and some colour profiles around there are wrong! Indeed, doesn't mean he was flying the plane when this belly landing occured; doesn't mean, too, he wasn't. Cheers, Franck. |
Re: 19/12 - Bf109s on eBay & something else
Hello,
... I forgot one important point: we can see - even READ IT - the overpainted White 5, from the former White 15 this plane did wear in 1./JG 2, in front of the Yellow(!) 5. Regards, Franck. |

I think you are right Franck. And a color photo of this dark yellow 5 over a nearest rectangular washed camouflaged area published page 247 of the excellent book on JG2 (volume 1) by Erich Mombeeck.

Bonsoir Bertrand,
Thank you; I started to think no one had a minimum interest with that "thing"... Mr. Claes Sundin did good interprating the colour number as being -better use the right word - brown! May be a little scan of the picture you are talking about, Hmmm? Bonnes fêtes Bertrand. Regards, Franck. |
Re: 19/12 - Bf109s on eBay & something else
Hi gents,
coming back on that "Braune 5" - here is Prien comment in JFV, Teil 4.I, page 142. Though I don't understand the full sentence in its details, I think this confirms my guess... Am I wrong? Regards, Franck. |
Re: 19/12 - Bf109s on eBay & something else
It seems the auction on the Machold plane has expired and is no longer visible. Could someone repost the picture?
Thanks |
