He 111 seen hit over London 15 Sept 40

I have an eye-witness account from the ground of a He 111 seen being attacked and set on fire by a Spitfire over London (north of the Thames) on 15 September.

Does anyone have any idea as to a specific He 111 or Spitfire involved?

I note that
The witness saw this through a gap in the clouds and recalled the cloud cover on that day.
Most of the He 111s in the afternoon attack on London seem to have been attacked south of the Thames. Many appear to have turned before they would have been visible from north of the Thames.

thanks,
David Isby

Alfred Price's "Battle of Britain Day" could well have an answer.

Sorry, but the words 'needle' and 'haystack' spring to mind...

...as do the words very small and very large in respect of needle and haystack

Hence my shot-gunned He 111 losses for that day listed previously - take your pick. At least, I guess, its a fairly small haystack.

Salutation. Joel

There were a number of other losses-I have a Ju 88 of 2/KG 30 at Villedieu, one of 6/KG 30 at Amieres and another from 6/KG 30 near Caen and there were more

Of what I have and posted, the 2nd KG 101 machine would appear to be the closest match, though with a mis-spelled location?

Uffz. Herbert Rogowski "mort" ( B=KIA)
Uffz. Helmut Dreschsler "blessé" ( Bs=WIA)
Fw. Rudolf Köppel "blessé" (Bs= WIA)
Qui a t-il à voir le 10 août ?
Joe

Hello from Normandy

Yes, I think this crash is mine. The common "Beautesnil" does not exist then, is a spelling error.

A really big thank you for your help.

If I understand correctly, Lt. Walter Nitschke died? Was it a crew member?
Uffz. Herbert Rogowski "death " (B = KIA)
Uffz. Helmut Dreschsler "wounded" (Bs = WIA)
Fw. Rudolf Köppel "wounded" (Bs = WIA)

Who does he see August 10?
