Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hi Franck
The 4 picture with "Hisa" on it could be a slovenian pilot. Hisa means House/home in slovenia. I have an "hisa" in Slovenia Or my wife have teach me the wrong word for house. regards Peter van Gogh |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hello Peter,
If I believe Wiktionnary the word for House is hiša in Slovenian not hisa, S and Š being two different letters. Note; this is a typical indo-européen word/root giving house in english, haus in german, hus in saxon and huis in dutch I presume. Huis in french did change its meaning from house to door... since it's obvious that when you close the door, you close the house! Last, this is exactly the same word used in "aujourd'hui"... Which, initialy was the day to open the door for the weekly/monthly market day: "Le jour d'huis". Where am I??? Ach! with a Bf109F-4!! in April 1943! Anyway, why not Peter? But the signature is Günther Eberhard as is the name on picture's back, isn't it? but it seems too that only 13.(Slow.)/JG 52 had F-4 in February 1943... And the only Günther Eberhard I found came from JG 51!!!! Since you use, my dear Peter, to take your holidays in Croatia - I do remember some pictures - maybe you'll be able to translate ALL the writings, aren't you? :D. Thanks for your comment; always welcome... as you know. Cheers, Franck. |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hallo Franck,
I´d rather see the Croatian pilots being trained with JG104 (former Jagdfliegerschule 4) at Fürth-Herzogenaurach in the late-year 1943. So it must be a German Bf109E being flown by trainer pilot (?) Günter Eberhard. So I would read this name simply as "Lisa" (Sütterlin-influenced "L") Regards Fran |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hi Fran,
I like your comment, and this is good for other pictures in that batch. Date match too. Concerning that very picture, it's a 109F-4 since we see the octane triangle just behind the pilot's legs. Regards, Franck. |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hello,
Guys, the easiest way is to simply translate the writting on the back ;) So, for picture #4 it is: Oberfedlwebel Gűnter Eberhard, 28.4.1943 Herzogenaurach, pilot instructor at the fighter school. BTW, all the aviation photos from this seller are from the lot of Fw. Desimir Furtinović, who was trained in JG104 from 01.04.1943 until 15.09.1943. After that period he joined the 15.(kroat.)/JG52. Before he was himself a pilot instructor with A/B 123 in Agram and Graz/Thalerhof. |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hi Tomislav,
Thank you!!! You did what I'm asking for since my first post. And congratulation Fran for your guess. What about the texts behind the Bf109G pictures?? Well, you know a lot about that Fw. Desimir Furtinović... Are you the seller? Franck. |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hello Franck,
No, I'm not the seller. If I owned the photos I would probably never sell them. Unfortunately the whole lot of Fw. Furtinović, including photos, documents and flight logs, came into the hands of simple militaria dealers and now they are selling the items one by one only caring fot their profit :( But, now to help you with the inccriptions. #1 12. March 1944 (Nahod), Kreš? Šval? The date of the crash is wrong as there are no known crashes on that day. According to the available Summerische Verlustmeldungen, the 15.(kroat.)/JG52 suffered three losses during March '44 - on the 10th, 11th and 23rd. The loss on the 10th March was a 100% loss, so I would rule out that one. The names written after the date are from Uffz. Vladimir Kreš and Uffz Albin Šval, probabley guessing who was the pilot in the crash. Nahod is the second name of Kreš. #2 6.8.43 Herzogenaurach-Fürth, fighter school Nürnberg #3 6.8.43 Herzogenaurach, Me 109 Bf 109 E, operational flight #5 "Halz und Beinbruch" a german phrase for: "break a leg", unfortunately I can't read the signature of the pilot #6 During .... Stuka .... our, Karakut, Krim 10.02.44 |

Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hello,
#1: You can find another picture of the same plane in "Fighters Defending the Reich WORLD WAR 2 Photo Album Number 4" by Bryan Philpott, 1978. Source, Falcon site. ... With pilot being on the picture. Some questions: 1/ In Michael Holm site - concerning 15.(Kroat.)/JG 52 - we find the place Grammatikowo for the 1.43_1.44 period. That name is following by a question mark for one good reason I think: Is it Gramatikovo (one "m") in Bulgaria or Ichki-Grammatikovo (two "m") in Crimea, Ukraine??... Always that bad habit to NEVER put the right AND complete names... (just a personnal thought; but it's boring!)(In French - in English too? - we don't need to write w to get v sound; not like in german) 2/ Did the LW use only Kertch harbor facilities in Crimea or others too? Regards, Franck. |
Re: 6/02 - Bf109s on eBay (15(Kroat)/JG 52) & others.
Hello,
Back to "Lisa"... #4. http://cgi.ebay.de/Wehrmacht-Flugzeu...item2a0de9574a Few weeks ago one lonely picture was put in auction, and I did put the link; here it is... It's hard to pretend it 's the same plane at 100%! but positioning is the same, "i" "s", links between them.. Dot on "i"... I knew I had seen it before. Regards, Franck. |
