unknown russian pilot 6/7/41
 

Hi alls
Who was the pilot of one of two Il -2 or U-2 shot down over Bobruisk airfield on 6 July 1941 in the afternoon ( maybe in the evening ) ? The two gunners and one pilot seem to be killed and the second pilot bailed out and got pow by the German ground crews.

U-2 - crew consist of pilot and gunner.
Il-2 - only pilot.

Thank you for reply. You are right with U-2.
I had Il-2 from Mombeeck, Bergström, Pegg (Jagdwaffe, Barbarossa) :
" 6 July, two "Severskys" which were probably Il-2s from 4 ShAP "
Jim Perry's Database Files give two U-2s on 6/7/41 at 20.15 and 20.20, no location and German text published in 1943 :
" In the afternoon, three ( Kette ) two seater low level attack aircrafts with a rear gunner were sighted heading toward Bobruisk airfield ...
...During the airfight just over the airfield the first exploded in mid air, the second caught fire and one of the crew members (Maybe not the pilot !) bailed out before the aircraft crashed to the ground. The third escaped... ... The Russian landed right in the middle of the German pilot's tents and was taken prisoner by the ground crews... "
I would like to know if two U-2s were really lost in that area, what unit, names of the crew members to confirm the story above.

4ShAP had no losses on 6.7.41. I have full loss list for this unit on june-july 1942.

Was there another VVS unit which lost two U-2s that day ?
Sorry I don't know how to find Russian losses and so need your help.

I think everyone overlooked the Su-2 of the 103 BBAP (later 103 ShAP) which made raids on that airfield in July41. They made a strike there on 08Jul41 that I know about losing at least one Su-2 to Bf 109's. I can't provide anything for the 6th.

About 8 July the rest of the German text I have is very short but gives an exact crash location :
" One bomber shot down. The beast has already scattered his eggs but thank God hits nothing. It crashed on open field three or four kilometers in the North of our airfield."
Maybe your Su-2 of 103 BBAP ?

I forgot about this one. Do you have a time for the 08Jul41? I've tried to determine which unit it was that shot down this Su-2. I believe it was JG51 but only find listings for Pe-2, DB-3 and SB-2 (SB) on that date.

It was 1./JG51. Time could be 19.35 (If location was 3-4 km N/ airfield ) but the claim is listed as SB-2.
Match with your SU-2 loss ?

The incident for the 8Jul41 is on www.allaces.ru which came from D. Khazanov's book about the Su-2. It lists there that Lt Alekandr Petrovich Devevitskiy was the pilot but it lists on that site that he didn't return from a mission on 13Jul41. Which could mean that he evaded and returned to duty. Heinz Baer of the 1./JG51 is listed in JFV 6/I as the pilot shooting down a SB-2 at 19:35 but no location. It seems that III/JG51 was at Bobruisk-south and I/JG51 at Bobruisk-north. III/JG51 seems to have shot down DB-3 at 19:15 & 19:25. In the clash Sergey Popov was credited with shooting down a Bf 109 but the only loss of a Bf 109 was further north a Borisov. I found no date of loss for Derevitskiy out side of ??Jul41. The base for the 103 BBAP was Novozybkov.

I have two more I./JG51's claims:
Pe-2, 15 km NNW Rogatschew, 19.25 and Pe-2, no location, 19.40 (same source: Jim Perry's database files, primary source Prien/Bock)
Was a SB-2 lost by E/A on 8/7/41 at 19.35, 3-4 km N/Bobruisk airfield (location from other source) matching with Baer's claim ?
If not, wrong identification or transcription of Derevitskiy's Su-2 remains possible.

The Pe-2 is twin tailfin so I'm sure that wouldn't have been confused for the Su-2. So that leaves Baer's claim as the possible claim. I have no loacation for his claim but maybe someone that knows his history has that information (It's not in Prien's JFV 6/I).
