BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
I am looking for information on specific BOAC-flights frem Stockholm to Scotland in fall 1942.
The following catalogue references at the National Archives include information on "British Overseas Airways Corporation and Transport Command" AIR 20/2993 Dec. 1941 - Oct. 1943 AIR 20/2994 Dec. 1943 - May 1944 AIR 20/2995 May 1944 - Oct. 1945 AIR 20/4629 Sep 1943 - Oct. 1944 AIR 20/4630 Oct. 1944 - July 1945 Does anyone have knowledge about the character of the above references? Basically, I would like to know whether these references includes a list of 'passengers' that would make it possible to connect a person to a specific flight from Stockholm. Logic would suggest, that some of these transfers was secret, and thus not recorded, but logic does not always rule. Thanks in advance, Mikkel |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
I know nothing about the PRO/NA records indicated. However, the Stockholm-Bromma airport log still exists. I does show the number of passengers and the name of the pilot or aircraft commander, if I rememeber correctly (plus aircraft identity, take off and landing times, etc), but no passenger names.

Hi Guys,
I know this is basic stuff in relation to your question Mikkel, but I still think it serves as good background info. http://www.gyges.dk/Courier%20flight...%20sweeden.htm bregds SES |

SES,
Thanks for posting this information. www.gyges.dk is a growing site indeed in terms of information as well as the scope of topics. Mikkel |

Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
I am doing research for a book on Norwegian Lodestars. Thus I have some information on the aircraft that flew the Scotland-Sweden run. But unforutnately no passenger listing.
I might however have other information that interests you, and vice versa? So perhaps we could exchange information ? Nils Mathisrud |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
Nils,
I have seen the project mentioned on http://www.ahs.no/. I have to admit though, that I have no information to share at this point. If I cone across further information, I'll let you know. My interest is due to the fact that a Danish pilot that I am reseaching arrived in Scotland this way to join RAF in the fall of 1942. At this point, I suppose, the a/c must have been a Lodestar. Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
BOAC also operated Hudsons on the route untill the summer of 1942. It could perhaps been one of these as well ?

Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
Hi
What about a ABA DC-3, is that impossible. Nick |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
I think ABA strictly flew Swedish passengers. But it is of course a possibility.
But when did ABA start regular traffic to Scotland? Around 1942? I have this information in my books at home. Nils |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
Hi
Acording to gyges.dk, 16 feb 1942. Cheers Nick |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
That flight in February 1942 was a test flight only, without passengers. ABA had some unresoved issues with the British, so there was still some time before "scheduled" traffic started. Some months, I think, but I have the dates in my references at home.

Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
Hi,
This is what I based my entry on: 1942, 16 februari: Svenska kurirflygningar Bromma -Skottland påbörjas med en orangemålad Douglas DC-3 "Gripen", SE-BAG, med Marshall Lindholm och Sven Gibson som förare. Först gick flygningarna direkt men senare tidvis över mellersta Norge. |
Re: BOAC operations - Bromma/Stockholm-Scotland
I will check up the book "Kurirflyg" when I get home tonight.
But since SE-BAG was shot down, 20 June 42, they must have started before that date. Nils |
