Heinkel 111P W.Nr 2602 KG54

Evening, could anybody confirm the Werknummer 2602 for He111P from KG54 1939-40, or perhaps have a record of loss for this particular a/c?
Any help would be appreciated.

Best regs,
Steve.

Hi, nobody got anything regarding loss details for this Heinkel?

Perhaps production detail, or Stkz for this series.

Any help really appreciated.

Steve.

Steve,

Our EOE WG has been looking at this one, in the salvage yard at Gent, Belgium, but it isn't among our confirmed SN for any KG54 loss during the WC, although we've worked that unit hard with a lot of success. If you find out anything, we'd also like to know about it. Since the He111 obviously came down intact there are probably photos of it out there, but we just can't connect that W.Nr. with anything in our DB so far.

Just wanted you to know that we weren't ignoring your request.

Hi Larry, great to hear from you and i appreciate the work your doing on the EOE WG.

Yes this Heinkel is really proving hard to identify, im quite sure its demise was probably during the Western Campaign may - june 1940 but cannot match any recorded incident, has you rightly say.
If i find anything i will of course let you know!

Kindest regs,
Steve.

Steve/Larry...

While checking your post, I did a quick search through my collection of pics... I hope I'm not raising your hopes, but I found this, and there seems to be a W.Nr 2602 on the dismantled control surface under the fin/rudder assembly. Is this the machine you're looking for?

It was logged recently on 14 June as part of Peter Evans' e-bay listings, over on LEMB. Hope this may be of help.

Kind regards

Paul

Hi Paul, this is the very photo ive based my querie on.
Would really like to nail this one, it would appear from Larry that the photo may have been taken in a salvage yard at Ghent, Belgium.
If anybody else could offer any further clues please feel free.
Thanks for looking Paul it is appreciated.

Kindest regs,
Steve.

Steve,

This picture was taken at the former airfield of St-Denijs-Westrem, west of Gent. That's all I have I'm afraid.

Rudi.

Hi Steve
I cannoit give you anything on the loss date or Unit dates etc But I can say it is a Type P-2. Built by Heinkel but not sure at which plant.

It would not have a standard Stkz as this is too early for this but must have received a Uberfuhrungskz (Ferry-reg). These were temerary registrations used to test/transport the a/c from the factory to its next operator either a dispersal point or Unit. In this case HE+??

I have 2616 with HE+??

Sorry I cannot add anymore

Many thanks for your analysis Tom, out of interest, when did the permanant Stkz codes start?

Steve.

Hi Steve,
Definitely a P-2, and 2598 was factory coded TH+HV if that is of any help!

David

Re: Heinkel 111P W.Nr 2602 KG54

Hi, folks...

Following on from David's information, the LEMB Stammkennzeichen database shows TH+HV first registered as D-AERJ, and at some point was assigned to Erprobungsstelle (See) Travemünde. W.Nr. is also confirmed as 2598. Sources quoted per that site are 'E.Stelle Travemünde, Band 3', 'German Secret Flight Test Centres to 1945', 'Luftwaffe Verband' magazine and 'Luftwaffe im Focus' Special.

Paul

Re: Heinkel 111P W.Nr 2602 KG54

Hi Steve/David

The Uberfuhrungskennzeichen (Ferry-codes) came into effect from 23rd Sept 1937. It consisted of the factoy identification of the 1st part of the 4 letter code. DO for Dornier: HE for Heinkel etc. This lasted until the commencement of a new 4 letter sequence of Stammkennzeichen which commenced from 24th Oct 1939 and lasted virtually until nearly the end of the war.
The Stkz TH+HV for W/Nr.2598 came into effect after it was built and was not a true factoy production code sequence. TH+H was specifically reserved for Est Travemunde aswell as sequences TI+H - TJ+K - TK+H
Hope this helps
Regards
Tom Willis
