Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
During two months Soviets had made 10 air attacks on Berlin, mostly by 1. MTAP (DB-3T) and much less by land long-range aviation: DB-3F of 40 BAD (all were 9 missions) plus one more was conducted by heavy bombers (TB-7 and Yer-2 - it was total failure for Sovites).
1. I wonder if these attacks were any kind "noiced" by German A/A systems? 2. What about damages done by these attacks in Berlin? Regards, mirekw __________________ Mirek Wawrzyński |
Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hi Mirek!
I have a German report ( "Technische Nothilfe-Landesgruppe Berlin) from 8.8.1941 about a Russian air raid in the night of 7./8.8.1941. Between 0.00 and 02.06 19 bombs were dropped on Berlin. One bomb contained leaflets with Stalin's speech from 3.7.1941. Several houses were damaged. 2 people died and 12 were injured and four people were reported missing on 08/08/1941. Rene |

Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hi thanks
German had slight over estimated this air attack. It was the first mission against Berlin, and only 5 planes (of 10 DB-3T or -3b of 1. MTAP) had come over Berlin, other had attaced secondary target. One DB-3T (whole crew of st. lejt. Finjagin - 3 MIA) was missing during this mission. Anyway it was great succes of Soviet aviation (big PR). So they had conducted next 9 mission on Berlin. BTW the most "mass" attack of DB-3Ts and DB-3Fs (there were from DBA regiments) was on 15/16.08. This night according Soviets 17 bombers had bombed Berlin. Do you have any information about results of this attack? Regards mirekw |
Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
I have forgotten. According Soviets they had dropted 30 FAB-100 on Berlin on 8.08.41. According this German document in fact about 3 planes had attack Berlin, not 5. If right remeber (?!), in the first reports Soviet claimed attack of only 3 bombers on Berlin, other crews attacked secondary tragets along the route.
Each bomber had on the board in this first mission 6 FAB-100s. Regards, mw |

Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hello Carl
There at least were at MPKK:n Kirjasto, Maurinkatu, Die Geheimentagesberichte der Deutschen Wehrmachtführung in Zweiten Weltkrieg 1939-45 volumes, in Band 3: 1 . März 1941 - 31. Oktober 1941 (1992) pp. 249-51 it gives same in info as Rene's, 3 Flugzeuge (vermutlich russische) über Berlin-N... it gives axact info on damages, also addresses. Personalverluste: 2 Tote, 13 Verletzte, da 4 Personen noch verschüttet sind ist damit zu rechnen, dass die Zahl der Toten und Verletzten sind noch erhöht. HTH Juha |

Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Following link has something on the Russian air raids in 1941 as remembered by General Kuznetsov: http://admiral.centro.ru/balt02.htm
Just an addition to what's posted already. Regards, Leendert |

Hi
Quote:
Berlin-N means Nord or North, and in this book is written about 3 bombers, which attacked the city? I have only made such assumption knowing the amount of bombs, which one bomber had carried inside. BTW Admiral Kuznietzov's memories are very good in general political overview (bacground to whole preparation), but have many errors if you are interested in details of this operation, as memories. |

Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hello Mirek
Yes WM thought on 8 Aug 41 that there had been 3 probably Soviet bombers over Berlin-N, so it stands in the text. See exact places of bomb hits in my message #12. Juha |

Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Thank Juha too
BTW is there any in this book next losses done by Soviets? They had done next 9 missions, so some next effect should be??? Crews had reported about some hits among Berlin's buildings. Regards, mirekw |
Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hello Mirek
the volumes are a part of the reading room collection of the library of our military academy, and I don’t have now time to visit there to consult them. A couple decades ago I got copies on a few pages of that volume, mainly on those which cover the 7./8.8.1941 attack. Only other info from the book I have In der Nacht zum 11. There were bomb damages around Guben. HTH Juha |
Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
Hi Juha
Nice but something strange data about Soviet attack on Berlin? There were following dates of Soviet air attacks 1. 7/8.08, 2. 8/9.08, 3. 11/12.08 4. 15/16.08 5. 18/19.08 plus 4 more. From the third attack Soviet had used aditional DBA's bombers of 40 DBAD - next 12 DB-3 and DB-3F had landed on Aste airfield. On the night 11/12.08 such bombers were despached against Berlin too. Bombers from 1. MTA had attacked other target, not Berlin this night. Second strange, but only the first night Soviet had reported a loss of one bomber crew and up to 15/16.08 they did not recored any more own losses including DBA unit too. Regards, mirekw |
Re: Soviets attacks on Berlin VIII-IX 1941?
I have just forgotten but on 10/11.08 was done other, rather tragic attak of TB-7 and Yer-2 of 432. TBAP and 420. DBAP. According Soviets only 4 TB-7 and 2 Yer-2 had got over Berlin. Crews had took off near Leningrad.
