Yak 3-looking for information

Hi.
Recently we found wreckage Yak-3 in the Slovak Republic, who was shot down on January 14 1945 in the village Muzsla. Can anyone help with identifying of Russian pilot?Muzsla in 1945 belonged to Hungary.
Thanks.

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

гв.мл.л-т Стадниченко Алексей Ефимович was shot down and killed near Muzsla-NW, 2 km in Hungary (recently Slovakia) on January 14, 1945 from 5 VA, 6 GvIAD, 31 GvIAP. His opponent was probably Hptm. Helmut Lipfert 6/JG 52. (Muzsla belonged to Hungary not only in 1945, but for about 7-800 years before 1920. It belonged to the Roman Catholic Cardinal of Esztergom, Hungary. Majority of population is still Hungarian. Just for accuracy.)

I hope this helps.

Gabor

Hello Gabor,

Can I ask you if your source is a published one, or if the data is coming directly from former Soviet archives ? If the former is true I will be interested to buy it.

Best regards

Laurent

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Laurent,

You can just try to type Stadnichenko´s name (or that of any other airman) in cyrilic into http://www.obd-memorial.ru/ database and it will, in most cases, provide you some basic details. Hope this helps.

Ota

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Thank you for the info Gabor.
We did not find the pilot. It is listed as missing? And where can I get a photo, I need it in a museum.

HGabor 13th October 2011 19:49

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

No problem. The pilot was killed, not missing. But Hartmann claimed another one in the area, I assume from the same unit. Maybe that guy survived. Who knows. As of the photo... It is not easy. I cannot promise anything now.

So the pilot was found and buried?

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Gentlemen,

Several corrections:

1. Stadnichenko was shot down on Yak-9, not Yak-3. Serial № 1615342
2. Area given in operational documents is "Kibelkut"
3. Surely by Lipfert, time matches.

HGabor 13th October 2011 21:19

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Thanks Nikita, the point is yours:

1. Stadnichenko was shot down on Yak-9, not Yak-3. Serial № 1615342
-I read the personal file mentioned above, haven't checked the serials specifically
2. Area given in operational documents is "Kibelkut"
-Kibelkut is Hungarian "Köbölkút" (now called: Gbelce) It is in the same area (the very next settlement), so it still can be Muzsla.
3. Surely by Lipfert, time matches.
-I agree. Sorry, I quoted the name of German pilot just from memory, but remembered the twin victories. You are right, Lipfert claimed both, not Hartmann.

Cheers,

Gabor

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

factory production number 1615342 is a Yak-9D
as Yak-3's were not manufactured at Zavod 153.

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Lipfert writes from downed a Yak-3 at Muzsla. We found the engine, landing gear, metal tube construction of aircraft, weapons UBS 20 mm and two 12.7 mm UBS.We found pieces of wood paneling, on which is clearly visible gray.Small parts are burned and totally destroyed.Yak-3 had the same landing gear as the Yak-9?Plane crash site is 2.5 km NW of the village Muzsla.

Thank you very much for any information.
Sorry for bad English.

This means it must have been either a Yak-3 or a Yak-9U. Probability for Yak-3 is higher due to its higher production. Anyway it must have been very difficult to distinguish the two in aerial combat.

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Well when I enter the name of Stadnichenko in http://www.obd-memorial.ru/ , the search engine returns three documents.

I admit I am not very good in reading Russian, especially when hand written, but I am unable to find the aircraft type or the serial in these documents, while I understand from other posts that you found these details in them. Can you confirm my impression ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

the Yak-3 had the same basic type of landing gear as the Yak-1/1b that is developed from.
the main strut comes down and bends over the inside of the wheel and has a two-piece outer door.
the Yak-9 has the same basic type as the Yak-7 that it is developed from.
the leg comes down and forms an "L" shape connected to the outside of the wheel and a single piece outer door.
(both have small inner doors)

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Thanks.
The landing gear is definitely the Yak-3.

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

If it's not Stadnichenko's Yak-9. Then who when down on a Yak-3? Has there been a serial number found yet?

Laurent,

This can not be found in OBD. I have researched operational documents of 6 GAID in TsAMO.

sturmgewehr1945 16th October 2011 19:25

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

Unfortunately, the serial number was not found.According to the picture on page airwar.ru, we can say that the landing gear is of the Yak-3.

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

So it will not Stadnichenko?

the only hit I got from Lycos using 150 GIAP and Yegorov

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

The name listed in the OBD is Gds. St. Lt. Nikolay Sergeevich Egorov (Squadron commander) 150 GIAP: Failed to return from combat mission on 19Feb45 in the region of "Mozhla, Bela/Vengriya".

kurlannaiskos 23rd October 2011 13:42

Re: Yak 3-looking for information

that's the problem with not being able to read it in the original Russian.
I was forced to translate "Jegorov" as Yegorov"
if this borrowed computer would recognize my Cyrillic-enabled keyboard I might have been able to to find Russian sources.

OK, thanks. IIRC, Lipfert was based in Vesperem then, which is ca. 100km away from the Gran/Esztergom bridgehead. Quite a distance for a 109...

The report on the page obv.memorial says that Stadnichenko was shot down in the village Kaptalak, Czechoslovakia.Kaptalak does not exist, it is Kóspallag and is in Hungary.Kóspallag is about 25 km from the village Muzsla.A date of loss is 14 jan 1945.
