Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
3 DB-3T of 1. MTAP (pilots kpt. Jesin commander plus crews of lejt. Jurin (Yurin), Rusakow and escort of 6 I-153s commanded by mjr Kudrjawcew. This was one of plane of special avaition group (crews of 1. MTAP plus 57. BAP), which had made 9 attacks agianst Berlin since 7.08.41
One DB-3T (nr 391127) of kpt. Jesin shot down, all 3 members KIA, plus to killed Jesin (or Yesin) were navigator Chachibulin, and radio-operator Njankin. A little strange, I have info about attack done against German transport plus two escort ships after 16.00? (Soviet this hour should took off form Kagul, but German data could be more credible. Regards mirekw BTW DB-3T it was see version of DB-3B, adopted to carried torpedos and other see weapons (mines). |

I wonder if there any other information about aditional claiming. I have found that also one I-153 was shot down in this fighting from 12. KOAE.
Do you have any information about this claims even as probably? BTW, may you know: How many Me 109s did take part in this combat? mirekw |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
Prien had two victories for 1.Erg/JG 54 this day:
Lt Wolfgang Kretschmer claimed an I-18 in Pl.Qu. 28451/25 Ost at 12h35 for his 2nd victory. Ogefr Rudolf Schöchlin claimed a DB-3 in Pl.Qu. 28874/25 Ost at 12h50 for his 1st victory. I know that types claimed by German pilots were often wrong in summer 1941, but don't remember if I-18 was used for I-153. Can you give us details of the shot down I-153 ? |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
Beside I-153 12. KOAE had also at least 2 even more 3 or 4 Jak-1, which had got in August 1941 from 71. IAP WWS KBF. These Jaks were also used over Saaremaa.
Code I-18 was used, if right remember, for marking Jak-1 or MiG-3, I-153 was mostly called as Curtiss, and it was easy to make distinction between Jak-1 and I-153. It is possible that for the excort of DB-3T were used also one or 2 Jak-1 with I-153s. I do not know pilot's name of the shot down plane. Jak-1 could be damaged during this battle? This is speculation. Regards, mirekw |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
Hello
No idea about I-18 But: I-26 for Jak1 I-200 for MiG 1 I-301 for LaGG-1 etc. |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
BTW it is possible that one MiG-3 could be lost from 71. IAP VVS KBF, a few of them had escaped to Saaremma by the end of August 1941. This second fighter unit also fought on island. And I-18 is near MiG-3 then Yak-1.
I wonder if JG 54 had sustained any losses in this combat? Regards mirekw |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
I don't know about any losses on that day.

Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
Mirek,
In www.allaces.ru it has Ml.Lt Vladimir Fedorovich Konin listed as flying an I-153 with the 12 KOAE KBF but on checking the OBD it has him listed as pilot with the 3 AE, 71 IAP KBF and KIA in an air battle on the 27Aug41 in the Kopore region. Also listed as KIA in the Tallin region Kapitan Vladimir Fedorovich Poltorak of the 5 AE, 71 IAP KBF on an I-16. I didn't notice any deaths for the 12 KOAE for that day so they might have just been part of the escort and no losses. It looks like no "overclaiming" that day but under claiming. |
Re: List of claims for JG 54 in August 1941?
Hi Nokose, thanks for the tip, :-)
Quote:
lost plane. Konin is lost in this mission as a pilot of 71. IAP VVS KBF. And he died shot down by German pilot but not in I-153 but in MIG-3. There were two air mission. 1st to cover attack of Soviet torpedo boats against these two "ships/tugs" done by 1 Yak-1 and 3 I-153 (no losses) caaled in this Russian diary as "zvieno". 2-ed, escort of 3 or 2 DB-3T by 2 MiG-3 of 71. IAP VVS KBF (second zvieno). During this second mission was lost one each Soviet plane. This what make more probably this version is German claims as "I-18" and not Curtiss is too huge difference between MiG-3 and I-153. From the distance 200-300 m it is easy to see differences.
