'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

This might be a long shot...........

As a researcher of Luftwaffe document groupings, I frequently find myself cross refering the dates of death for fllying personnel, on occasion as a result of a slight discrepency in between the Wehrpass and the supporting documents.

Is it possible that someone can point myself in the right direction to obtain access to the 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM) to aid in the ongoing research work?

Any help whatsoever really will be very well received. Hopeful in anticipation.

Regards Richard.

The "Namentliche Verlustmeldungen" of all Army, Airforce and Navy units hold by the WASt "Wehrmachtsauskunfststelle" in Berlin Germany.

So today due to the law they changed the handling, only next of kind will get informations about this documents.

But a lot of people before the 80´s got copy´s of NVM´s so a lot of stuff around the world.

It depends what ones you are after. I have a number but doubt whether they would help your research. Unfortunately, WASt stopped sending photocopies of the NVMs some time ago due to the reasons stated earler

'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

In this instance I am in particular looking for details of a Bf-110 of the Stab/ZG26 lost on 21-February-1944 over Braunschweig.

The Bf-110 was crewed by Lt Karl Axterer and Fw Siegfried Raddatz.

Any additional information on the machine or any other facet of the loss will be very well received indeed.

Hopeful in anticipation.

Regards Richard.

Matti thank you very much for your help with this, it is much appreciated indeed.

Is it worth asking the question whether the identity of the USAF pilot who shot this aircraft down can be researched and indentified?

Regards Richard.

I am also looking for any details of the machine flown by the same crew and the same unit on 11-December-1943, where I gather from Raddatz's Flugbuch, the aircraft suffered an engine fire?

Any help as always will be very well received indeed.

Regards Richard.

Khorat & Matti, thank you for your help with this.

Is there any indication on the NVM as to why the aircraft suffered an engine fire, the extent of damage or the unit codes of the aircraft?

As always your help is very gratefully received.

Regards Richard.

Re: 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

My information matches Matti's, but I also have WNr. 120026 being lost on 20-Feb-44 (at least as I recorded it), but the Feb loss is also reported with the same code as a 20-Dec-43 minor loss for WNr. 120025. The plot thickens....

Bf 110G-2, 120025, Hermann, Ofw. Raimund, , I., 1., ZG 26, , 3U + 5, , , 20-Dec-43, WIA due to Luftkampf., , Lw.Bfh.Mitte/RLV, Ring, ZG 26 loss list, , Bremen, b, F, , ,
Bf 110G-2, 120026, Axterer, Ltn. Karl, , I., I., ZG 26, , , , , 11-Dec-43, Crew injured in crash due to engine fire., , Lw.Bfh.Mitte/RLV, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #12)-Vol.24, , westlich Därpen, 100%, F, Bf Fw. Siegfried Raddatz, ,
Bf 110G-2, 120026, Kutzer, Ofw. Walter, , I., 2., ZG 26, , 3U + 5, , , 20-Feb-44, KIA due to Luftkampf. Bf WIA, FSA., WNr. 120026 per Ring., RLV, Ring, ZG 26 loss list, , Andernach, 100%, F, Bf Uffz. Paul Altmann, ,

Re: 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

NVM shows 120025 for Feb loss. Interesting thing is, that in NVM somebody has with a pencil changed the type to Me 410.

Re: 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

The WNr. 120025 vs 120026 for the Feb-44 loss does make sense due to the matching code and the fact that the late Dec-43 loss was only reported as damaged, which as we both know can mean anything from ~5% to a total loss - but was why I included it in my post (my transcription error?). For the Me 410 WNr. 120025 I have:
Me 410A-1, 120025, Leist, Uffz. Horst, , I., 3., ZG 26, , , , , 29-May-44, KIA due to Luftkampf. Bf WIA, FSA., , RLV, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm T971-13 in US National Archives); Ring, ZG 26 loss list, , Arnswalde/Woldenburg, 100%, F, Bf Uffz. Hans Schneider, ,

Gents I genuinly appreciate your help with this however, I am a little confused as to whether the machine was a G2 or indeed a G4?

Also is there any indication anywhere as to why the aircraft suffered an engine fire or the unit codes of the aircraft?

As always your help is very gratefully received.

Regards Richard.

Re: 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

Hi.

Without acess to my Bf 110 books today, but checked the loss records I have for the 1200xx series of aircraft, and all are registered with the G-2 subtype when not reported as G only

Also - the aircraft inventory records for the unit for February 1944 show that the unit reports Bf 110 G-2 only on strength

Regards,
Andreas B

Andreas, thank you also for your help with this matter.

A Bf-110G-2 it is then!

Regards Richard.

Re: 'Namentlichten Verlustmeldung' (NVM)

While by no means an absolute, generally the Bf 110G-2 were dayfighters, the G-4 nightfighters.
