Hello and 1st enquiry

Hello, Ladies and Gents here,

glad to be here again as a member, i was some recent years ago here.
Thanks Admin and others envolved to allow me to "take off" here.

If anyone may shed some light to this LW-loss about which unit/pilots claimed this bird is mostly welcome:

Ju 188 E-1, call-sign A3+LD, W.-Nr. 260399, 4./I./KG 200, non-operational transfer-flight, shot down by allied fighters on 2.2.1945 close to Marjoß, whole crew perished: Ofw. Siegfried Rausch (Pilot), Ofw. Phillip Segeth (WO), FW. Lothar Klein (Nav.), Fw. Valentin Heinz (Bordmech.) and Fw. Max Friedel (Gunner). With the exception of Siegfried Rausch all are buried at cemetary Schlüchtern.

Thanks to all for their attention and interest
Norbert

Frans A:

I am not sure, but slight idea is (9V) = 9 victories. Possibly i am missing too far off included...

:-))

Yes, of course. Excuse me, but my notes to help. (?)
Yes (9v) - 9 victory in total.

Re: Hello and 1st enquiry

Neither the Gen.Qu. 6. Abt. loss record nor the NVM say anything about a fighter. The NVM just says »Beim Überführungsflug von Erfurt nach Echterdingen am Ziel nicht angekommen« (on ferry flight from Erfurt to Echterdingen, did not reach destination). Is the information about being shot down from the graves of the airmen?

Re: Hello and 1st enquiry

Hello Nick,

WASt. Berlin states this a/c as shot down in an answer-letter to my request a lot of years ago. Strange is the missing of the Pilot who is not mentioned in it.

Best Regards
Norbert

Re: Hello and 1st enquiry

I should add that there was a dividing line between the RAF (2nd TAF) and USAAF (9th AF and 1st Tac AF) night fighting zones. This aircraft came down well inside the American sector. The RAF is only likely to have been involved via Bomber Support operations but the only such claim for the night of 2/3 February seems to have been by No. 85 Sqn. for a Ju 88 near Wiesbaden.

Re: Hello and 1st enquiry

Nick,

so this might be possibly a kill by US fighters at daytime. Just a guess.

The Americans had night fighters too but I don't think we should exclude an accident as the cause of this loss. Obviously, I don't know what information WASt. may have received since the »namentliche Verlustmeldung« was first submitted.

Nick,

so this might be a possible score for US fighters at daylight. Just a guess.
Or is any time for this incident mentioned in the GQM and/or the NVM papers?

Best Regards
Norbert

I have no reason to suppose this happened in daylight; it is very unlikely that they would have risked a daylight ferry flight at that stage of the war and 4./KG 200 operated by night. I have no information on American night fighter claims for the date in question.

Re: Hello and 1st enquiry

Hi guys

Might this have been a friendly fire incident? Any Luftwaffe claim that might fit the bill?

Just a thought.

Cheers
Brian

By checking the pieces i hold to this LW-loss i somehow do agree with Nick's opinion at least. Entry in church-diary of Marjoß only records "durch Absturz" (crash).

The USAAF Fighters made one claim for the 2-2-45:-
11:32 1/Lt Dorwyn D.Shaver IN A p-47. Ju188 SHOT DOWN M-1567, vicinity of Geroldstein. 378 F.S. 362 F.G. 9th A.F.
From Frank J. Olynyk Book USAAF Vic Credits air to air ETO.
