Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Happy New Year!

I trying to find info on the the following officer...it would appear he is lost in time with some references, perhaps through typos or difficult handwriting of the day!!

Kind, Albert
Born 20.7.1913 in Aachen, Killed in action 30.1.1944

Ranks:
1.6.1940 Oberleutnant
1.10.1942 Hauptmann

Units:
? - 31.1.40: 1/I/Jagdgeschwader 2 "Richthofen"
1.2.40 - 17.2.40: Jagdfliegerschule 4, Fürth
18.2.40 - 18.7.40: 3/Jagdfliegerschule 3, Stolp-Reitz
19.3.40 - 21.11.40: 3/Jagdgeschwader 77

1.10.1939 Commemorative Medal of 1.10.1938
24.9.1840 Iron Cross 2nd Class
6.10.1942 Operational Flying Clasp for Fighters in Bronze

I find no info however with JG 2, 51, 26 and 52 !!

JG 77. Prien. Page 394.
24.9.1940. 1/JG 77 Oblt. Kind shot down and belly landed near Wissant. Bf 109 E-4, Werk Nr. 1500 (recorded as 1/JG 77 and wounded but no wound badge or hospitalisation in Soldbuch)

The BoB. Then and Now. Page 656
Tuesday 24.9.1940.
1/JG 77 Bf 109 E-4 (1500) damaged by ground fire during combat sortie and crashed on return to Wissant. Oblt. Kind wounded.
3/JG 77 Bf 109 E-4 (5213) crashed on landing at Marquise-West due to mechanical failure during operational sortie. Pilot unhurt. (Kind?)

Could this info be wrong somewhere as Kind was awared EK II 24.9.1940 the same day as either combat or crash landed!?!? Perhaps it is I. for the Gruppe rather than 1 as in Staffel? Or pergaps there was another Oblt. Kind in I. Gruppe?

Die Flugzeugführer - Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1935-1945. Carlsen u. Meyer. Page 24
3/JFS 2 StKpt. Oblt. Kind, Alfons 24.4.41-14.9.42

Again a typo somehwere as this is the same time Albert Kind was at JFS 2.

JG 1 und 11. Prien u. Rodeike. Pages 551, 698 and 1159.
Killed in aerial combat as Staka 7. St. with P47. Crashed around Deventer. Bf 109 G-6. Werk Nr. 410565. Black 1 +

I find no info however with JG 2, 51, 26 and 52 !! Still searching....

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Interestingly I have just noticed in his Soldbuch that he received a tetanus jab on 24.9.1940!
Perhaps he was wounded or scratched himself getting out of the wreckage?

Thanks Larry,

However I think your info was updated from mine when I emailed you in 2009 about Herr Kind as we had at least three people then.

Kind 3/JG 77
Kind, Alfons 3/JFS 2

KIND, Albert. (DOB: 20.07.13). 24.09.40 Oblt. in I./JG 77, WIA – shot down and belly landed near Wissant. 01.12.42 promo to Hptm. 12.43 Hptm., appt Staka 7./JG 1 (to 30.01.44 †).

Probably so, Ian, probably so. It looked kinda suspect because it was identical to yours.

I guess you have already checked out the Kracker Archive that might have additional information on Kind's victories?

http://aircrewremembrancesociety.com...anPilotsA.html

Other than that, you will probably have to order copies of his officer records file from BA-MA.

Yes checked there Larry, incidentally Kracker also has him down as at least two people!
As for victories, I seem to remember could not find any when I initially started researching him in February 2009...been a bit busy since and only getting round to it again now!

I need to get some info done for Nick also :o

Thanks
Ian

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Been a good exercise researching this Soldbuch as I have not done it for a while, also found a typo in the Feldpost lists on CD and Kannapin's books:

FP Nr. 30659
(28.2.1941-29.7.1941) 2. Staffel Jagdgeschwader 203.

Of course JG 203 never existed, however underneath this FP Nr. is:

FP Nr. 30660
(2.1.1940-27.4.1940) Eisenbahn-Betriebs-Kompanie 203.

This is unfortunately where the error came from, 203 has been copied into the wrong Feldpsost number!!! This is in Kannapin and not an error on the CD's, however there are plenty of other errors on the CD!!!

The Feldpost actually belonged to:

FP Nr. 30659
(28.2.1941-29.7.1941) 2. Staffel Jagdgeschwader 26.

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

According to a contemporary I/JG 77 document I have, Kind was 3 Staffel. A similar document for JG 2 has no mention of him

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Thanks Chris,

Yes his Soldbuch has him down as 3 Staffel also. What are the chances of there being to Oblt. Kind with I. Gruppe at the time? Slim I would expect.

I think unfortunately someone typed a 1 instead of an I. or mistook an I. for a 1 and there problem started :D Perhaps the clerk who typed the accident report up!?!?

Likewise whilst he was with 3/JFS 2 his forename is recorded as Alfons!?!?!

As for the other units, he does not show up at all hardly!

The joys of research!!!

Regards,
Ian

Hello Ian,

Any available picture of this pilot, please? Better in 1940 ...

Thanks, Franck.

Hi Franck,

The only photo I have of him is from the Vermisstenbildliste. Unfortunaley there was never one in his Soldbuch.

That pilot or not? Difficult to say.

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Difficult to say...he has a high hairline but his face seems rounder to me!?!?

However, there is no indication other than Werk Nr. what ID his aircraft had on that day!

Interestingly BoB then and now, also Prien state that the pilot was injured, there is no mention of this in his Soldbuch only that he received a tetanus jab on that day. Additionally this pilot does not appear to be injured!!!!

Thanks, I will save a copy just in case it is!

Re: Hauptmann Albert Kind. + 30.1.1944?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your kind answer Ian.
Effectively this is not clear: In two references you gave (Prien and BoB...) there is something which isn't clear: One is talking about a "Belly landing" the other one of a "Crash".
I must admit that the fact nothing is mentionned in his Soldbuch concerning these wounds did help me - if not push me - to point you these two pictures.
Last, it's important to say that after a mission flight, after a possible air combat, pilots do come back "much older", for a while at least; Mombeeck books are full of this kind of comments. Another reason which push me in this direction...

Better try than doing nothing :).

Best regards, Franck.

PS: I did change my avatar picture; the new one is a 4.60Mb, 4200x3300 and is spectacular. If someone is interested to get it just let me know.

I do not have this book but apparently he is mentioned there also:

Mason, p.411
