No one can answer the question?

Re: Combat reports

You will be lucky to get the verbatim combat reports

Kutscha 14th March 2012 22:35

Re: Combat reports

How was Mr T Wood able to give a reference then?

Andreas Brekken 14th March 2012 23:02

Re: Combat reports

Hi.

These are not combat reports, purely listings of claims, with no more information than Tony Wood has been so kind to share.

The reference is to the microfilm containing the claims documents.

Andreas B

Andreas, I am not looking for the combat report but for the claim document.

I figured that but need an address.

Re: Combat reports

Hello Kutscha,

First seeing your mail of 13 March, then reading your mail of the next day (are we impatient?) and then this sharply next request 'I need the address' is perhaps not the sort of politeness that invokes people to help?

I have seen the microfilms myself and the chance of finding the claim documents are rather minimal.

Marcel

Hello, Kutscha

The films should be available for purchase both at NARA and at the Bundesarchiv/Militärarchiv.

Visit their websites for information on how to order.

Andreas B

Re: Combat reports

The films don't show more info than what already is in the Woods-List......so what do you think to achieve?

mhuxt 17th March 2012 11:05

Re: Combat reports

I thought the lists contained flak claims as well, is this not correct?

They do, with a few minor skips here and there.

Re: Combat reports

Thanks for that, will have to order them after all...

Re: Combat reports

Follow-up question - are the flak claims only those made by units in Germmany, or do the lists also contain claims by light flak, airfield defence etc in occupied territories?

Larry deZeng 9th April 2012 01:00

Re: Combat reports

All Flak units everywhere - Heimat, besetzten Gebieten, Fronten, alles.

Re: Combat reports

Many thanks Larry.

*sigh*, I should know better than to take on new projects...

Any advice as to whether the NARA or the BA/MA files are more complete / legible?

Larry deZeng 9th April 2012 18:39

Re: Combat reports

It's difficult to answer your question because I don't know exactly what you are looking for.

M.I. 15/War Office tracked all German Flak during the war since antiaircraft defenses were considered an Army function rather than an RAF function. But their interest was organization, unit locations and weaponry. They did not produce any information on German Flak claims that I know of.

BA-MA Freiburg Signatur RL 5 contains 506 folders of Flak-Abschüßmeldungen. That's about 12 linear meters of material (39.4 feet).

Larry
