Death of Dieter Voight of 6./Sg2
 

Hi Guys

I suspect this pilot was killed in the Summer of 1944, my guess would be 24th June 1944. He was likely to have been awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on around about 1st October 1944(postumously?). Could anybody please give me a Date of Birth, Death details, or any other deatils on this highly proficient schlacht pilot. His claims listed below are all I actually know about the guy, a date of DKiG award would be very welcome.

Hello Johannes,

I have a Uffz Dieter Voigt (without "h") wounded slightly from Flak ("Infantriesprenggeschoss") 6.10.1943 when flying armed recce over the Dnjepr. He presumably landed his 10% damaged Fw 190, Werknummer 1162, code "Y", at Flugplatz Kijew-Post Wolisnki, Planqudrat 01562. He was a member of 6./SG 1 and was born 3. Feb 1923 at Langensalza. Sorry, nothing from 1944/45.

Many thanks for the information, the date of birth is very useful. Guess he might have done some training? surely no more combat as his claims end so abruptly!

It is much more realistic that he was a member of StG2 / SG2, as
a) his claims as well as Kiew AF are all in the battle area of the Immelmänner (SG2) and
b) SG1 only used Fw190's very late in 1944.

Hello Yogibaer,

my fault, perhaps I should have used the correct abreviation for the unit: instead of II/SG 1 is is II/SchlG 1. In early October 1943 there was no SG 1.

"SG" and "SchlG" both stand for "Schlachtgeschwader". "SchlG" was the earlier abreviation, used only for the first two Schlachtgeschwader in 1942 and 1943.

"SG" came into use after the Stukawaffe was reformed in mid October 1943 and new "Schlachtgeschwader" were created. At the same time the old "SchlG" were also redesignated to "SG".

Dieter Voigts 6/SchlG 1 did fly Fw 190 from January 1943 onwards. The unit was renamed 6./SG 2 on 18. October 1943, a few days after Voigt being wounded. The NVM for Voigt was filed under the designation II/SchlG 1.

The amount of information makes me think that someone has a copy of his Logbook. They have him as a late bloomer making many claims in 1944/45. I have previously recorded that he made 31 claims yet can find only those that you have listed. 103 claims seems high and one would've thought this would have been mentioned previously elsewhere.

Anyway, it would be nice to find out the souce of information and verify it.

Sorry, a lot of the info in that link is obviosuly wrong. He did not shoot dwon 103 airplanes! SG-151 did not fly the Me-262

Yes, the "103" is fake. eight months as a trainer with SG151 would explain his abrupt end to claiming! I did list 17 clims for him, but I should mention that between mid-January 1944 and 30th May 1944 II./SG2's claims are fragmentary, so he may have got others in this timespan, in fact it is highly probable that he did. He flew with August Lambert who was dis-liked by the Gruppe adjutant, don't know why, jealousy perhaps, the French surname, or did he suspect Lambert of fraudulent claims? the Staffel apparently used to leave behind a Schwarm to cover there retreat, all of this schwarm used to make huge number of claims! Co-incidently Lambert made 103 claims(not the 116 or 127 we are led to believe), but then again this whole schwarm stops making claims at the same time, there is a fair chance that Voigt followed Lambert as wingman, I tried to match the 103 to Lambert but it didn't fit. Strange thing about "Voigt's" alleged 103 is it names the witnesses!

yes, I agree that 103 is very suspect and I also agree that SG151 didn't fly the Me262.

However, the point I was trying to raise was the detail of the awards. You only see this type of information if someone has the collection of certificates, the soldbuch, the Flugbuch or a combination of the three. In the references at the bottom of the page the author refers to the certificates. If the full scope of these exist, then chances are that the Soldbuch and Flugbuch also exist. It would be fantastic to get a full copy of these as they would clear up many mysteries.

Anyway, I'm going to write to this website to see if I can get more information.

Hi Johannes,

A picture of Dieter Voigt can be found in Buchner's book "Stormbird", page 95. Hermann Buchner was an original member of 8./SchlG 1 (attached to I./SchlG 1), renumbered 6./SchlG 1 in dec 1942 (under II./SchG 1), renamed 6./SG 1 in the Schlachtgruppen reorganisation.

Hi Guys

Have just received another anschusse list for Voigt, this one gives the witnesses, I have checked them and they all seem to have been alive at that time. The link previous mentions his nine claims for 24th September 1944, which I believe should read 24th April 1944, it seems he was mentioned in dispatches on this day, for this feat, does anybody have evidence of this?

Seems he allegedly made thirty-five claims in three days !!!!......think that would even beat Emil Lang's record.
